“By leaving, Cruz took that responsibility upon himself. Wrong choice.”

You can also look at it a different way - by leaving, he let the other patrons enjoy their meal in peace and quiet (once the a’holes left). Had he stayed, I can pretty much guarantee that he’d have been painted as being so selfish that he ruined everyone else’s meal by leaving.

I sure that he and the Mrs. ate elsewhere, and now Cruz looks like a bit of a martyr for Texas voters. This was one of Beto’s worst nightmares - with friends like these nuts, he doesn’t need enemies.

"...painted as being selfish..."

Sane patrons do not expect to dine in a restaurant in total ideological agreement with everyone at every adjacent table.

Were my family and friends to be dining somewhere and Nancy Pelosi were seated thirty feet away, I would be furious if Republican protestors stormed the place with airhorns, whistles, and drums.

Senator Cruz and Heidi Cruz should have waited there until police arrived and it also would have put the restaurateur on notice his/her response was being carefully observed, too.
