Reality Check: In a recent appearance on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” actor/comedian and, most recently, POTUS Trump-hating activist Jim Carrey, professed his love for socialism and claimed that Americans should embrace it fully as well.
After stating that we have to “say yes to socialism, to the word and everything,” Venezuelan columnist Laureano Márquez published a scathing column on Wednesday for the Venezuelan media outlet Runrunes, schooling Carrey over his economic worldview.

Jim Carey is the dumb man’s dumb man. He’s ill informed and not aware enough to know that he made his success with Capitalism. Saying socialism works is like saying “I’m a mechanic from down the road and I can do brain surgery.” The long and short of it is that he doesn’t know what he is talking about. He lives by emotion not reason.

Working with Tommy Lee Jones in a Batman film, they wound up at the same restaurant:

And he said, ‘I cannot sanction your buffoonery.’”
Part of the problem is that we’ve been calling Canada & Sweden & sundry other countries ‘Socialist’ when in reality they are capitalist countries with big welfare programs. Not really the same thing. We all need to start with a firm definition of terms before we can have a coherent conversation about politics.
Socialism isn't just about economics. Socialism is also about the oppressive measures it uses to stay in power and crack down on its opponents. I'm sure Carrey wants the type of socialism that doesn't throw people in jail for mocking the government.
In the mid 70’s I had a, I HATE this smarmy phrase, teachable moment. I worked one summer as a go fer at a parts store. One of our regular customers was the local go to guy when it came to German cars. I only knew him by his nickname, Sputnik because years earlier he his wife and then newborn son escaped E Berlin just as the wall was going up. If socialism is such a wonderful utopia of sunshine lollipops and rainbows everywhere why was that damn wall built in the first place? To keep the Mexicans out?
Self-described socialists never lead by example. What are they waiting for? Government, of course, to step in and force it on an unwilling public. Socialists by name, fascists by practice. Hey, same as Hitler....

With each passing generation of useful idiots socialism needs to be repackaged and marketed as something new and REVOLUTIONARY. A lot like those sleazy late night infomercials and free lunch seminars pushing the same old get rich quick scams. Like buying real estate with no $$$ down. Or making a killing in stocks regardless of market conditions. Investing thousands in the latest snake oil while building a downline or some other unworkable pyramid racket. They’ll tell you other systems failed because they were implemented wrong by the wrong people but THEY have a proven system that works. Those 4 deadly words, THIS TIME IT’S DIFFERENT! And like the hippies before them millenials fall for this crap like so many brainwashed little puppies.
Socialism is heaven, as Venezuela proves.
1. Their money is no good.
2. They are expected to praise the administration forever.
3. It leads to nothing better.
