I have eaten a lot of bears.

Well taken care of in the field goes a long was to having good meat.

The same with any game.

Properly good bear very good.

Did you say that backward? He was using an expanding, medium velocity hollow point. BBs are all about penetration.

Lots of factors involved in how any game tastes. What they are eating, age, health. If an animal is stressed (as in chased by dogs) it’s body gives off enzymes that can make the meat more tender, but also gamier tasting. In the old days they used to torture animals before killing them for that reason. Big males can have so much testosterone that the meat tastes funky. I’ve never eaten bear, but I’ve heard people say wild hogs taste bad because all they ever ate as a big old boar. And of course as you mentioned proper field care of the meat.
