There used to be (and still are but they never talk about them) 3 parts to the rating system.
Wind speed
Barometric Pressure
Storm Surge.
Lately they just seem to be rating storms based solely on wind speed. As in since 2005

Can you point me to the other (older) system? The only rating that turned up for me in a search was the Saffir-Simpson, and it’s origin is fairly recent.
Those are too much to think about!!! Just put it into a category to rave about so CNN can have hours of airwaves of nonsense!
