My recollection is that Sarah Palin was the only thing that kept McCain competitive. The base would have undervoted McCain until he brought in Palin.
As it is, he was ahead in the polls post Palin and before he grossly mishandled the crash before the election.

THe only reason they are keeping this going is because every day is another excuse to bash Republicans. John McCain admits in his book that the only reason he got the votes he did was because of Sarah Palin. SCREW THEM ALL.
She’s the only reason I voted for McCain in 2008. She energized the ticket and boosted his polls.
