Sounds nicer than the cruise ships of a generation ago.

If they’re a superior vessel at a good price point. Are you referencing American jobs? We’ve bought ships from foreign shipbuilders before. The Krag–Jørgensen from Norway was our standard battle rifle just over 100 years ago. Many of our anti-aircraft cannons were European.

system and upgraded gun

Why would we buy ships from Italy?

1. Because the German ones list to starboard (it leans over to the right)

2. It's cheaper than the Spanish ships.

3. It would enrich the Military Industrial Complex (to use the terminology of a Republican president) by costing billions to design one from scratch that probably wouldn't be any better than the plans they could buy from the Italians.

The Italians would have to build it in an American shipyard.

The two 'not from scratch' American versions are based on the two variants of the LCS which have proved themselves unsuitable for any role in which they've been tried, and lack endurance, firepower, and reliability. (The current LCS boats (I wouldn't call them ships) should be passed to the Coast Guard, which might be able to find a use for them despite their limited range and firepower. Coast Guard probably doesn't want them, however.

We would expect nothing less on an Italian ship!

The Coast Guard cutter would be great if you are looking for a ship with very high visibility on radar and no shock protection for key systems (no chance of combat survivability).

The Italian version would most likely be built in Wisconsin - the company already has a shipyard there.

Sure a far cry from the DD 702 “Hank” that I served on back in 1949.

The crew lives in staterooms, the largest of which are two six-person staterooms for (of course) the Marines and air detachment. Most are four-person staterooms. One-person staterooms are for the embarked admiral, the captain, the executive officer, and the department heads. The rest of the officers are in two and four-person staterooms. The beds are the same throughout the ship. In the two-person staterooms the racks the fold out from the wall, with the bottom rack folding out into a couch. In the four-person staterooms the racks are fixed. Each stateroom has an identical private bathroom, officer and enlisted.

Sounds just a wee bit nicer than the living quarters in the Fletcher class destroyer my dad served on in the 1950s.

Why Buy from Europe? WE can get better ships from Japan and South Korea? We should buy some of those English deasil electric subs.

25 knots? I was on the Bache DD570 and in sea trials it did 37. No staterooms though. Fore and aft there was no passageway inside so rough weather was tough. This one looks better, especially for the crew.

I remember we took a troopship to Okinawa when my dad got stationed there for the umpteenth time since he helped take it from the Japanese. This ship sounds nicer.

Might as well buy from Italy...The U.S. Navy began to resemble Italy’s WWII navy a few decades ago...
