President Donald Trump’s lawyers and a cadre of informal White House advisers claim they’ve convinced him not to pardon Paul Manafort — but White House officials expect the president to do it anyway.
The president’s characterization of his former campaign chairman as a victim and “brave man” is being read by aides as a signal that Trump wants to use his unilateral authority to issue pardons to absolve Manafort, according to eight current and former administration officials and outside advisers.
“Trump is setting it up. He’s referring to the investigation as a ‘witch hunt’ and saying this never would have happened to an aide to Hillary Clinton,” said one former campaign official....

Cohen says he doesn’t want one, so we should honor his wishes. Pardon Manafort two days BEFORE the election.
He only needs to commute Manafort’s sentence. He should not pardon him for the crimes he committed.
Uh... Manafort was charged with things that happened about 2005, before he had ever met Trump.
Selective prosecution disgusts me. If everyone ever connected with Trump is going to be investigated for any and all offenses (did Manafort also exceed the speed limit years ago?), then they should be pardoned.

The left wants to impeach him... and if they get the votes (illegal or not) in Nov, they will. Screw it... he should pardon everyone he can, and he should declassify everything he can think of... scorched earth.

This is true whether or not the GOP retains control of the House.
In my view, the sold-out globalist caucus of the House GOP is just waiting for Mueller to deliver something, anything, they can use to justify joining the Democrats to impeach Trump - and they haven't done it yet because they want to be re-elected in November.
So, in my mind, a Senate trial is an inevitability, and the sooner, the better.
But the President cannot pardon crimes against the State of New York.

Of course he can. It’s somewhat complex, but not impossible.
If need be, all President Trump would have to do is to Federalize the State of New York.
Once New York and other hostile states are Federalized, President Trump can issue Pardons on state charges and convictions.

i would expect him to wait until after the next trial is finished and post-midterms. i heard that the reason that some of the Mueller investigations have been moved to NY is to make use of state charging of crimes - which are not covered by presidential pardon. this takes the pardon possibility away from Prez and makes prosecutorial squeeze more potent. does this sound feasible?
