Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested last month that President Donald Trump revoke the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan over his potential to profit from his privilege despite no longer holding an official government position.
Trump agreed, and revoked Brennans clearance on Wednesday, more than a month after Pauls suggestion.
And while officially Trump acted because Brennan used his status to make a series of unfounded and outrageous allegations and wild outbursts about the Trump administration, Paul explained on Fox News Thursday that Brennans clearance should have been revoked for cause if that wasnt the reason, at least privately.
What did Paul say? Speaking with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Paul reiterated the fact that he has urged government officials for months to review the security clearance statues of multiple former government officials.
However, Brennan was a special case, Paul said, explaining the left is ignoring that Brennan allegedly violated security protocols by leaking information, which should have been the basis for him losing his security clearance.
I think he should have had his clearance revoked for cause. He leaked information that came out in the media that we had a double agent in Yemen, Paul said.
Remember when we were going after the underwear bomber? There still is a bomb maker in Yemen. He leaked that to the media, Paul explained. The double agent was still there, and he put that agents life at risk.
John Brennan should have been fired for that alone, Paul continued.
What did Brennan do? Reuters explains:
At about 5:45 p.m. EDT on Monday, May 7, 2017, just before the evening newscasts, John Brennan, President Barack Obamas top White House adviser on counter-terrorism, held a small, private teleconference to brief former counter-terrorism advisers who have become frequent commentators on TV news shows.
According to five people familiar with the call, Brennan stressed that the plot was never a threat to the U.S. public or air safety because Washington had inside control over it.
Brennans comment appears unintentionally to have helped lead to disclosure of the secret at the heart of a joint U.S.-British-Saudi undercover counter-terrorism operation.
A few minutes after Brennans teleconference, on ABCs World News Tonight, Richard Clarke, former chief of counter-terrorism in the Clinton White House and a participant on the Brennan call, said the underwear bomb plot never came close because they had insider information, insider control.
A few hours later, Clarke, who is a regular consultant to the network, concluded on ABCs Nightline that there was a Western spy or double-agent in on the plot: The U.S. government is saying it never came close because they had insider information, insider control, which implies that they had somebody on the inside who wasnt going to let it happen.
Because of the leaked information, U.S. officials had to prematurely shut down the operation, despite needing it to continue.
Paul has sounded the alarm on this specific issue before.
Whats next? According to a report from the Washington Post, Trump is considering revoking the security clearances of nearly a dozen additional former government officials.
I see a lot of parallels between the Byzantine Empire 1025-1071 and ourselves.
They had two major factions, the civil aristocracy (Dems) and the military aristocracy (GOPe). The civil aristocracy got the upper hand after the death of the great emperor Basil II in 1025, and they proceeded to neglect the imperial defenses in favor of ruinous spending in Constantinople and more privileges for themselves.
But the military aristocracy was not without its faults. Both the military and civil aristocracies oppressed the common people, and thus weakened the military fiber of the empire which depended on the small landowners.
Likewise today, we see Dems and GOPe oppressing the middle class for the benefit of the elite.
The good emperors like Basil II followed a policy of protecting the small landowners against the corrupt aristocracy, much like Trump is doing now!
Unfortunately, the Empire was so dependent on who the emperor was, that a bad emperor could also wreak untold damage. Like a US president today!
Bottom line, you need a country where power is decentralized and widely distributed, so that no one man or group can wreck things. Like the US used to be!
Exactly. The rest of us, when we leave a job, we leave access to inside information behind. The average American cannot comprehend how silly Washington is with its ridiculous “COURTESY CLEARANCE” policy.
Nonsense!! It’s threatening our national security that Huma, Hillary, Sally Yates, Samantha Power, Susan Rice, James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett, and others are still running around accessing information and using it to their own ends.
1. Revoked because Brennan was a KNOWN COMMUNIST.
2. Revoked because Brennan was a KNOEN MUSLIM CONVERT.
3. Revoked because Brennan aided and abetted in the sale of Uranium to Iran, his Terrorist Ally.
4. Revoked because Brennan was instrumental in the removal Vital Information about Muslim Terrorists and the Muslim Brotherhoods creation because of what he said is Islamophobia.
5 Revoked because Brennan is an Anti-American, Pro-Islamic Terrorist @$$hole!!!!!
Quite a list of communist party types.
I think you can say that about everyone. I can’t think of anyone I agree with 100 percent. i can think of numerous politicians I agree with often enough to vote for them if I lived in their jurisdiction. Rand is one of those.
He’d be one of the people to consider after Trump.
Now, let’s get Eric Brakey from Maine into the Senate. He’ll be part of the Paul-Cruz-Lee wing, and we want more of those.
