TODAYS POLITICS center around wheelings and dealings that are totally foreign to me. Foreign, as in Venezuela or Ukraine or the Philippines - not in my American experience.
Apparently, it is understood, everywhere but on the distaff side of The Hilltop, that the main purpose of todays political movements and machinations is to remove our current President from his desk in the Oval Office. Reasons given include his foreign policy, brash speech, inflammatory tweets, so on and so on.
Peel away the verbage: The basic reason that the Democrats, RINOs, media and Deep State want to rid themselves of Donald J. Trump is that he won the election and Hillary Rodham Clinton did not. He is President and she is not, and he wants to change things his opponents do not want changed. Those anti-Trump forces want an election do-over by any means, fair or foul. And the obstructions and demonstrations will continue until the mistaken electorate gets it right.
Thats the way it has worked in the tinhorn dictatorships, and it apparently is still working here in the three years since Trump announced his candidacy.
There are legal and traditional ways of removing a president - or other elected officeholder from his position - and its called defeating in an election. Other ways of unseating a president - assassination is criminal and impeachment is iffy - but the only recent examples successful hounding from office are Richard Nixon and his first vice-president Spiro Agnew. The Democrats only campaign promises and platform for the midterm election are Impeach Trump! and raise taxes.
It would take new Dem (or Dem Socialist) majorities in both House and Senate to keep the campaign promise Could happen, of course, but the Trump supporters - Hillary calls us deplorables - to change in less than 90 days, well know more after the midterms.
The Mister and I have narrowed our news sources to the Albia Newspapers and radio, Fox News and the Sunday Des Moines Register. None of those has carried much information about the activities of our former Governor Terry Branstad, now ambassador to China. Is he still at his Beijing post, or should we file a missing person report?
OH, NO! NOT AGAIN is a chronic complaint around our kitchen table when I try to run sloppy joes or mac-n- cheese across his plate more than once every two or three weeks. Okay, theyre easy to fix and I like them, but I comply.
Then, July arrives, along with its summer vegetable crops. Then, all bets are off. Weve had corn on the cob six or more nights each week during the season, and I may fix BLTs for supper, even if Jim has already fixed them for himself for his noon lunch. (And we may also have sliced tomatoes from his garden once or twice a day.)Any culinary rules go out the window during this season. Jim mixes the current fruit - strawberry, peach, plum, et al - into shortcake, cobbler or crisp for each nights dessert. I myself have no frequency rules at all; if it tastes good, Ill eat it early and often.
Another seasonal favorite: Amana cottage cheese. Small curd cottage cheese is drained of its normal juices, then it is spiffed up with buttermilk and sliced green onions. After mellowing a day or so in the refrigerator, its a perfectly wonderful summer meal addition.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Take chances, make mistakes. Thats how you grow.
Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave.
Weasel Mueller, Weasel Comey and RosenWeasel disagree.
By golly, the author’s name really is Mary Tyler Moore. And I was sure you had a 1970s flashback when you posted this.
That wasn’t exactly my favorite show in the first place and Ed Asner “Lou Grant” is a life-long communist.
She writes well. For a dead woman.
But MTM was a Republican.
Her talking about the garden-fresh tomatoes and corn took me back. I’d love a BLT with tomatoes from a garden right now.
Your gonna make it after all.
This is by far the best description of the political climate in which we are currently entrenched.
And it comes from an old farm housewife in Albia, Iowa. Albia is a former coal mining town in Southern Iowa with a population around 3,700 people.
Oh, they know full-well he won, but public education has dumbed them down to the point that they believe if they can throw him out, or get him to resign, then Hillary gets to take his place.
Well, Trump don’t run. None of their age-old tricks are working on him, at all. They’ve had try, after try, after try.
They’re banking on Mueller, thinking that’s the ticket on getting their famous sea-hag into the oval office, but, sorry kiddies - then you’ll have Pence to contend with, and he’ll choose a VP, who will be next after him.
We don’t have Presidential election “do-overs” in this country.
To bad, so sad...tsk, tsk, tsk
Instead of going to College on a Pell grant, she had a Lou Grant.
That’s how she knows how angry liberals really are...
You are right about that.
To the unconstitutional big federal government, Pres. Trump means the beginning of the end of the 24/7 drunk frat boys party in DC, with all due respect to frat houses.
Don’t knock fresh home grown heirloom tomatoes...
They've never learned "no."
