Alan Alda has Parkinson's disease. In an appearance on "CBS This Morning" Tuesday, the award-winning actor, best known for his relatable portrayal of Army Capt. "Hawkeye" Pierce in the TV series "M*A*S*H," revealed he was diagnosed three-and-a-half years ago.
"I've had a full life since then," he said. "I've acted, I've given talks, I help at the Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook. I started this new podcast. And I noticed that I had been on television a lot in the last couple of weeks talking about the new podcast and I could see my thumb twitch in some shots and I thought, it's probably only a matter of time before somebody does a story about this from a sad point of view, but that's not where I am."
Alda said he got tested for the disease after reading an article about how one of the early signs of Parkinson's is acting out dreams.
"I was having a dream that someone was attacking me and I threw a sack of potatoes at them. But what I was really doing was throwing a pillow at my wife," he said....

I HATED Mash with a passion and mainly because of that total asshole Alda.
Alda was funny in “The Four Seasons.” Dear Lord, talk about a gaggle of annoying, braying, whiny, pretentious characters (okay, “The Big Chill” probably has them beat). I never could figure out why they kept vacationing together, but their mishaps and arguments were funny.
Good luck to Alan dealing with his condition.
I don't think I saw more than a handful of episodes, never really liked it.
In real life the author of M*A*S*H, Richard Hooker(Dr. H. Richard Hornberger), was a conservative and hated the TV series.
Send his sorry ass to a M.A.S.H. unit that specializes in cancer comedy. Let’s laugh at his misfortune like he did our service men who died in the Korean Conflict.
Oops not cancer but Parkinson’s sorry.
Big deal!
The manager of my senior softball team has Parkinson's and he plays and another senior friend on another team has Parkinson's so bad that his glove hand shakes when he's standing in the outfield.
Neither one seems to want to stand in front of a camera and beg for sympathy...........
Alda's condition doesn't even come close to one of the guys I mentioned in my previous post.........
Especially his hair! Who had hair like that back in the 50’s?
Pray for his salvation. He desperately needs Jesus.
I never liked how Alda screwed up MASH. He is the epitome of the granola crunching constipated old liberal who is miserable and wants everyone else miserable. My favorite movie he was in was the one where he is some white house staffer who gets blown away by the secret service. I know, it is petty but yay!!
This is a concern...
