Many of the guns turned in probably did not work.

A fair number were valuable collector items.

You would have to go weapon by weapon, and I don’t think the cops or authorities want to admit that 95-percent were weapons of a marginal quality or simply broke and not worth repair. As for collector items? Again, an examination would have to occur.

I could see some widow coming to some garage clean-up after the husband’s passing and not grasping the four rifles in some old gun-case were worth $1,000 each.

If you look around....no one ever does a real study of these ‘buyback’ events and that ought to make you ask questions.

I live just south of Montgomery and it looks like the turn in is less than my number of firearms and my collection would be considered small next to many of my fellow Alabamians. Certainly none of mine are as cheap as those. My guess is they were turned in to get enough for a fix or bottle of booze. So as usual it was just a “feel good” thing so I guess it worked by making the libs behind the turn in feel good because the think they did something good and most of the people who turned them in will feel better after they use the money to get their fix.

I have always wondered how you can “buy back” something that was never in your possession to start with. Apparently anti-gunners are used to dealing with stupid people.

Some things to consider:

Eleven teens die each day because of texting while driving. Maybe it’s time to raise the age of Smartphone ownership to 21.

If gun control laws actually worked, Chicago would be Mayberry.

The Second Amendment makes more women equal than the entire feminist movement.

Legal gun owners have 300 million guns and probably a trillion rounds of ammo. Seriously, folks, if we were the problem, you’d know it.

When JFK was killed, nobody blamed the rifle.

The NRA murders 0 people and receives $0 in government funds. Planned Parenthood kills 350,000 babies every year and receives $500,000,000 in tax dollars annually.

I have no problem with vigorous background checks when it comes to firearms. While we’re at it, let’s do the same when it comes to immigration and voter I.D.

Folks keep talking about another Civil War. One side knows how to shoot and has a trillion bullets. The other side has crying closets and is confused about which bathroom to use. How do you think that’s going to end?

“Gun Turn-in Montgomery Alabama: Trash and Treasures Turned In at “buyback”

Sad...there are dumshit politicians/police in the Old South. I thought they were mostly in coastal and northern cities.

That is just sad. Just spent a few days going thru all the guns in my safe, oiling and cleaning. Compared the values in my collection with going values on Gunbroker and see that my collection is now worth a few thousand more. Sorry that I don’t live close enough to Montgomery to make a buying expedition. Well that and the fact that the Liberty safe is full.

pre-64 model 70 Winchester in 30-06.

Makes me sad that this is going to be destroyed. And virtually in my backyard.

What is the deal on intercepting these guns? If the government was offering $50 why cannot I stand out there offering $60 and pick up the gems.

Different jurisdictions will have different rules, but what are the basic notions behind laws to thwart private sales?
