Unfair?

I am deeply sorry that John McCain is gravely ill. I have prayed for him. I will continue to do so.
But I have a question.
McCain has claimed throughout his political career, especially in recent years, that “country first” is his guiding principle. It was even his campaign slogan when he was the Republican nominee in 2008. At the time the emphasis in using the slogan was that he would do what was best for the country rather than what was best for this or that political party, and there is nothing wrong with that providing that what you think is best for the country really is. I’m not sure that’s always been true in the case of John McCain, but that can be a discussion for another day.
At present, because of his illness, he is generally not able to travel to Washington to participate in Senate votes. I am not his doctor and I am not in a position to tell him he has to travel if he is not well enough to do so. He decided to do so last summer for the ObamaCare vote, and once he got there he saved ObamaCare by voting thumbs-down on the so-called skinny repeal that wouldn’t really have repealed much of ObamaCare at all.
It’s easy to say that if he was well enough to do that, he should be well enough to travel to Washington for a Supreme Court confirmation vote. But it’s possible his condition has deteriorated in the course of a year and it’s no longer feasible for him to do so.
But about this country first thing: A Supreme Court confirmation vote is hugely important for the country. In the past McCain has been willing to vote to confirm conservative Justices, including Neil Gorsuch, and he has also been willing to confirm qualified nominees offered by Democratic presidents. There is nothing in his track record to suggest he should be expected to oppose any of the nominees we’re hearing are under consideration by President Trump.
Yet because the Senate has only 51 Republicans, and at least one of them may refuse to confirm anyone she thinks will not protect abortion rights, McCain’s presence or absence could mean the difference between confirming Trump’s nominee or rejecting him or her.
If McCain’s illness prevents him from voting, and he really puts country first, then why is he hanging on to his Senate seat and possibly jeopardizing the success of this nomination? There is nothing stopping him from resigning and allowing the governor of Arizona from appointing a successor who is perfectly capable of going to Washington and participating in this and other votes.
McCain is 81 years old. Imminent death is enough of a consideration for him that he’s supposedly given directives about who can and cannot attend his funeral. What is gained at this point by clinging to his Senate seat but not doing his Senate job?
Unless, of course, McCain is doing this out of spite because he detests Donald Trump.
But he puts country first, so that can’t be it.

Team Death was gonna lose all along. He choose Palin to discredit her movement. She was against the deep state up in Alaska. Cleaning up oil corruption. The deep state does this a lot. Seduces you, turns on you and then leaves you for dead. Never give them leverage. And what a coincidence, the deep state thug who throw a Presidential election, is now trying to throw a Supreme Court nomination.
Because he wants to die as a sitting senator and have a giant show about him after he is gone....lie in state in the Senate building or somewhere similar and have 3-4 days of the news talking about him as if he were a president which he if course could never be because he is a small man who is a loser.

McCain is a depraved, tiny, little child who never has given a damn about this country. He would throw his own mother overboard if he thought it would get him something. He’s no one to be proud of and never has been.
I have it in my mind that he will be wheeled in on a gurney to vote, a most dramatic ending scene, as his ego so demands.
You’re right, it could have been fake news. Nonetheless, Governor Ducey’s office has been getting A LOT of calls and emails warning him to not replace Juan with a McCain family member or another putrid anti-Trump RINO. When Mr. Roo Roo and I each called Ducey’s office, his staffies seemed beleaguered, and they also denied that Ducey offered the senate seat to Cindy.
I’ve come to the conclusion that this man is not deathly sick at all! This is his way of retaliating against trump and us ..he’ll probably be at death door for the next eight years ...count on it!
Concerning No Name one needs to ask which Country?
Do we need 51 votes even is doesn’t show? If there is only a quorum of 99 senators, then we would need 50 votes?
The vote on this nomination might not be for several weeks. I don’t see the urgency for him to resign or do anything? So, wouldn’t it be bit unfair to question his loyalty until it comes time to vote?
Nope only the Senate can exclude a Senator. The governor however is the one that replaces a Senator but only in accordance with the State Constitution.
While Trump names the guy on Monday, I don’t see the Senate even starting the internal session until mid-August, and the vote is likely to be mid-to-late Sep.
But I’m kinda wondering if a second Justice might come up in the next week (Thomas for example) and give his notice as well.
The issue I see is that the longer that the Democrats drag this out...the more it hurts any Democrat running in a red state or 50-50 state. If this were me, I’d want to just get this over and move on.
It is not like it hasn't been done before.
I’ve posted the same thing. Thomas would be smart to depart now before the Fall Election, then that would assure a conservative court for years to come.
It just seems too good to be true with Trump president. Each day is great.
Can’t wait for tonight...
