The hearing would be the former Trump national security adviser's first court appearance since pleading guilty more than seven months ago.
A pair of legal filings suggesting that special counsel Robert Mueller's office is almost-but-not-quite ready to set a sentencing date for former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn have prompted a federal judge to order Flynn and lawyers for both sides to make an unexpected trip to court next week. than seven months ago.
The hearing set for next Tuesday would be the first court appearance for Flynn since last December, when the former Defense Intelligence Agency chief appeared in a packed courtroom to plead guilty to one felony count of making false statements to the FBI about his contacts with the Russian ambassador to the U.S., about his lobbying during the presidential transition on a United Nations resolution critical of Israel, and about his lobbying work favorable to the Turkish government. than seven months ago.
It would also be the first hearing before the judge currently assigned to Flynn's case, U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan. A few days after Flynn's high-profile plea last year, the judge who accepted it Rudolph Contreras recused himself. than seven months ago.
No official reason has ever been given by the court, but Contreras reportedly approved a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court warrant related to the Trump-Russia investigation. In addition, text messages exchanged between a top FBI agent later removed from that investigation, Peter Strzok, indicate that he was friendly with Contreras.

It is a farce, and if Trump is half the man I thought he was, he needs to pardon Flynn.
Mueller shouldn’t be fired, he should be arrested. He and his band of Clintoon idiots are out of control.
I totally agree.
As I have said from the beginning, Flynn’s lead attorney Robert Kelner is not working for Gen. Flynn; he is working with Mueller to screw over General Flynn.
Kelner is maximizing his fees and help Mueller put the screws to Flynn. The statute Flynn allegedly violated has never before been prosecuted after about 100 years of being on the books, and the FBI said Flynn didn’t lie.
Kelner could have had this case dismissed in a month or two with very little money spent.
Emmett Sullivan is just the best!!!
You are misinformed.
Go read the guilty plea.
That’s what Flynn or being sentenced for. There is no mention of Logan Act.
He lied to the FBI about his meetings with the Russians, and failed to register as a foreign lobbyist.
The Logan Act stuff was thrown around by Insane Sally Yates, but never charged. I doubt the FBI even brought it up in the plea negotiations.
Flynn’s biggest problem is he pled guilty. It’s hard to claim innocence after doing so.
Based on what we know I might have it wrong. However, I have heard reputable sources including McCarthy and Hemmingway (good journalist) as well as Sara Carter all say their sources told them that Sally Yates directed the FBI to go interview Flynn after he was unmasked and it was shared within the deep state about the contact with the Russian Ambassador. These same sources have said that it was Sally Yates who said this would violate the Logan Act.
That contact was the basis for the interview in which they said he lied. It appears to be the impetus for the whole “investigation.” There was great animus towards Flynn among many in the Obama administration because he did not agree with their worldview so it is not unreasonable to assume he would be a target. However, they needed a hook. The “lobbyist” thing did not come about until later by my recollection. That would make the underlying crime the Logan Act and not failure to register as a lobbyist.
