Last week's episode was horrible. This weeks episode was just a fraction better -- but still horrible.
Anybody else finding it difficult to watch and to vest any interest in it anymore?
The basic plot is pretty simple. Westworld is an AI-driven theme park run amuck. The androids are becoming conscious (the nature of consciousness being the Big Idea at the core of the show), and they are quite naturally revolting against their horrendous mistreatment. The now-conscious bots kill a lot of human guests and staff. The company, Delos, moves in with serious muscle to stamp out the revolt.
Unless the show jumps the shark with the Incredible Superpowers of Robots, Delos will very speedily restore order. Newly conscious AI samurai, western gunslingers and Indian servants from the British Raj cannot hope to outfight modern weaponry. The only real plot question is whether any of the woke bots will successfully integrate into human society (e.g. Bernard) or, alternatively, escape the island and go underground in the "real world."
Several of the bots are (or were, before their latest reprogramming) attractive characters who we would wish to survive. And several of the humans are clearly sympathetic to the bots. (They have yet to form an Underground Railroad, but that wouldn't surprise me.) There are some human interest plot lines that should be sorted out. But it's hard to see how the producers can get a worthy third season out of human-android romance and/or a bot breakout.
I watched season 1 and 2 of the expanse, tried watching season 3, but it’s lost its luster a bit. Season 1 was great. Reminiscent of Film noir style. I’ll eventually finish it, wait for the season to end then binge on it.
Billions is good, currently watching The Librarians. I love it when I find a gem of a series after thinking I’ve seen everything.
Movies, I get. But TV? You can’t have more than a room temperature IQ and be able to stand TV.
Bread and circus. But the real problem is sending money to support CNN. That boggles my mind.
SHIELD is one of the two programs I bothered to record, (the other being Lucifer). SHIELD started out great, but the last two seasons were so-so. I noticed they were really trying to "diversify" the cast lately. With them killing off Phil Coulson (played by Clark Gregg, who has wonderful deadpan humor), I'm not sure if I will bother any more.
I thought that he arrangement has been fairly good. However, I watch it mainly for escapist relaxation.
For now, at least, the philosophical and moral dimensions of the show’s premise are being submerged in sheer mayhem. A larger theme though has been made explicit: even as there are robots that yearn to become human, there are humans who want to become robots, at least in so far as the robots can be made immortal by transferring their basic personalities into new bodies. If coherent memories can be transferred as well, then an essential attribute for a continuity of consciousness has been achieved. This seems to be the purpose for the creation of Westworld: to establish the infrastructure and potential for a form of human immortality.
Who’s mocking whom? Enjoy your opiate. Feed your enemy.
It is hard to care about the characters. I don’t buy a premise where the builders allow the the hosts to develop to the point where they rebel.
Instead, I watch streaming TV from the internet with a Roku stick.
I watch pretty much anything there is besides what's on regular TV that is sent to you via cable or satellite.
I don't watch cable TV news or network sitcoms or reality shows at all.
Just movies, documentaries, education shows, travel shows, etc. at my choosing, rather than their choosing.
Last night I watched a program about Egyptian chariots, their history, how they were designed and how big of an impact the chariot's invention had in changing warfare almost immediately.
Modern craftsman and riggers tried to duplicate the making of these chariots, which were much more complicated than the subtle eye could see. They found it much more difficult than they first thought it would be.
It made for very interesting and educational TV.
There are plenty of interesting TV programs to watch if you stay away from the regular fare offered by the networks and cable/satellite providers
I agree. Anyone that didn’t see how the series was going during season one is a tad bit slow. It is a butchery of a good concept from the old days of real stories. The original movie series was good, but alas, they tried to milk it on the second movie too much. Hollywood produces very little that is new. They recycle comic books and resurrect old successful sitcoms and movies and expect to get paid for it.

THANKS for this explanation; I was beginning to think that I was getting Alzheimers ! I am continuing to watch but not following. Hoping it will all come together somehow. Agree about Rachel Ward in over her head on this season.
Then don’t watch it.
