Bank robberies arent as exciting as they used to be when they were the stuff of Oceans Eleven style, or the coarser Bonnie and Clyde. No more black balaclavas or dead president masks. No more guns, no more physical threats. This is the age of the cyber thief, and Mexicos recent $110-million bank heist didnt even require a criminal to touch the money at all. With a push of a button it was gone--almost.
Gone, too, is the excitement of getting caught up in a bank robbery as dramatized on television. But the lack of physical excitement also means that no one needs to know when a banks been robbed. Its all cyber, so it can all be kept on the down low.

Several times over the years, my bank (Chase) has issued me a new credit card (Visa) for no obvious reason. “Please destroy your old card immediately and use this one instead.” I’ve always assumed it was because of some sort of massive data breach — though obviously they never mentioned that.
At least no notes saying one has a gub.
Was it a different card number, or the same?
If I remember correctly it was a new number, new expiry and new 3-digit security code. Several years back I also fell for the constant Lifelock ads and signed up for a year. Almost immediately my credit card was charged 35,000 Thai baht at a Southeast Asian computer store! Until Lifelock, I’d never had any trouble at all with my credit card. I cancelled at the first opportunity and requested a new card from my bank (Chase). I know it’s fashionable to badmouth “banksters,” but I’ve had nothing but excellent service (and account security) from Chase.
Perhaps someone didn’t like being stuck with the tab for a bunch of illegal alien Mexicans and decided to get paid?
The assertion by the author that banks, especially US banks, can keep cyber crimes on the “down low” is incorrect. Banks are REQUIRED to report cyber crimes.
A gub? Yes, that’s definitely a “b.”
It didn’t work in a Woody Allen movie either.
