There’s a major war brewing in the Middle East between Iran and Israel. It is now getting nasty and ugly, and for the first time, Iranian rockets hit Israel mainland targets. After President Trump decided to withdraw the US from the Iran nuclear deal, within hours of his decision, Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu, fearing a massive buildup of Iranian forces that have been taking place in Syria over the last several months, began to “retaliate” (read attack them on sovereign Syrian territory) via massive missile and air-strikes, pounding positions held by Iranian soldiers (Iran has a mutual defense treaty with Syria by the way) south of Damascus and near Aleppo. Iranian and Syrian fighters were killed and missile sites were destroyed. In retaliation and in response to Israel’s aggression, last night Iran’s Quds force (part of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards) who are operating outside Iran, launched over 70 missiles and rockets from Syria over targets in Northern Israel. Israel deployed the Iron Dome, their anti-missile defense system, and they were able to intercept and destroy some of the rockets fired by Iranian forces, but not all.

I've mentioned this many times. The Mullah leadership of Iran mostly belong to a particular sub cult of Islamic religious fanaticism.
They believe it is their religious duty to trigger a massive war, because they believe this will cause Allah to send forth the Mahdi, and he will conquer all the world for Islam.
They are in fact willing to Martyr themselves to get this "Mahdi" to return.

The best thing that could happen from this latest exchange is for Israel to take Syria at their word, and declare all out war on them and their partner Iran.
After the fighting is over with Israel of course victorious, claim territory according to the rights of victory. Draw a line through Allepo east to the border with iraq and claim everything south of the line.
Carve out 60% of the territory of the former Iran and have Saudi Arabia governed for Israel. Inform Syria and Iran they have 90 days to resettle any non-Christian, non-jew in the new portion of Israel.
If any bad actors start working in Iraq, then Israel should connect their territory betwixt.
There will never be peace in the region until the borders of Israel span from the Tigres to the Nile.
Israel never should have given back the territory that Egypt and others rightly lost during previous wars.
Neither should we, but both examples are subject matter for alternate history books not yet written.
