Donald Trump’s veiled threat against nations that may oppose the US bid to co-host the 2026 World Cup has prompted Fifa to refer to guidelines that warn against political influence over bids. Morocco is the the only other rival to the US, which has launched a joint bid with Canada and Mexico.

“The U.S. has put together a STRONG bid w/ Canada & Mexico for the 2026 World Cup,” Trump tweeted. “It would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the U.S. bid. Why should we be supporting these countries when they don’t support us (including at the United Nations)?”

Any country supporting Morocco over USA should be poked in the eyeball.

Soccer is the 7th or 8th out of the 4 big sports in the USA (although the nfl may join it soon).

No one here really gives a damn about fifa. If it did or did not occur no one would really notice.

You do know that the 1994 World Cup in the US, is still the highest-attended World Cup, ever.

FIFA? Integrity rules? Hahahahahahahahahaha ....

The U.S. is probably blackballed for having helped lead the last anti-corruption probe.

We love a spectacle. No one lives or dies on how the local team does nor how the USA team does when we are reminded it is competing.

Has FIFA and integrity ever appeared in the same sentence. FIFA is one of the most corrupt sport governing bodies in the freakin’ world.

Beat me to it. I am a longtime soccer player, coach and huge fan. But FIFA and ethics is so funny, from reading only the headline, I thought this was a satire!

I thought it was something about FIFA officials demanding more brown bags filled with cash.

FIFA is to integrity as Bill Clinton is to chastity.

Boring sport no one really watches.

Do you need me to show you the attendance of MLS to prove it?

You mean like how Atlanta United is actually outdrawing the Falcons?

MLS does about 8 million in attendancxe.

Compare that the the NHL, which does 21 milion.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/509326/mls-average-attendance-by-team-north-america/

Atlanta FC MLS: avg per game 48000

https://www.statista.com/statistics/249664/average-home-attendance-of-the-atlanta-falcons/

Atlanta Falcons: avg per game 71960

Never invent statistics when there is this internet thing to prove you did so.

A good example of that is yourself:

Atlanta FC MLS: avg per game 48000
Thanks for adding.

“No one” is hypebole (smart people would detect this). Of course, a handful of people watch it.

A SMALL handful.

That is different than a statement of fact: the Falcons outdraw the MLS whatevers.

Germany is the favorite to win the 2018 World Cup at 9/2, followed by Brazil at 5/1 and France at 6/1. The action kicks off from Russia on June 14. Before you make your picks on World Cup futures, you need to see what European soccer expert David Sumpter has to say.

Germany faces reality check before title defense
