I used to follow the professional baseball teams (Red Sox as I was raised in Massachusetts) until they went on strike during a great season looking for more MONEY and better contracts while in the process of killing the remainder of the season . This was in the 80’s I believe . Since that stunt occured I have had nothing but disdain for the overpaid boys of summer and will never intentionally allow a red cent of my money go into thier greedy “mitt’s” (pun intended!)

Bob434, didn't you get the memo? We're ALL gay now....

I don't follow baseball much either.

Has the baseball season actually already begun this year?

The last team with such a hot start was the 18-2 1987 Milwaukee Brewers. They ended up not making the playoffs.

I grew up a Red Sox fan. It is way too early in the season.

Talk to me on Halloween.

Agreed. I’m enjoying this. Hope to get back to New England this summer and catch a game.

The proof will be the standings on August 31st.

Too many years of post All Star swoons.

No matter what, starting off 17-2 is phenomenal. Just 2 losses so far. Meaningless as far as the playoffs go as anything can happen. August 1st is my date to start worrying about the SF Giants. Before then, there is way too much time to get too excited or too worried.

By August 1st, things are starting to gel and time is starting to get short. Sure there can still be big swings, but I don’t even think about playoff implications before August 1st.

But if you are a BoSox fan, you have to be enjoying this phenomenal start. If nothing else, almost every fan who has gone to a game has gotten to see a win. Beats being a Reds fan and sitting at 3-16.

Let’s see them match the Tigers’ 35-5 start in 1984.

The Astros are still the best team in MLB. They have the best pitching staff.

I grew up in Boston so was a big Red Sox fan during the 1970s - a more innocent era before cable TV, 24/7 news cycles, Internet, etc. As a boy, I used to take some of my paper route money, take the subway to Fenway (35 cents), and get a bleacher seat ($1.75). Yes, in my lifetime, it was possible to get into a major league ballgame for under $2! My children (now grown) cannot conceive of that. For an extra 50 cents (at the time), you could in the bleachers purchase a "grandstand pass" which upgraded you to standing room only. Then you could take any empty seats you could find. Around the 7th inning, as businessmen started leaving early to beat the traffic, I would usually find myself right behind one of the dugouts.

In those days, I was serious about the game. I bought a program and scored the game with a number 2 pencil. People say baseball is boring and maybe it is on TV, but in person, I always liked to pay close attention to the game.

Back in the 1970s, the Red Sox were known for hitting a lot of homeruns. I see that type of long ball is back with the Red Sox this year which helps explain their fast start. They appear to have some decent pitching as well.

I hear ya’ loud n clear ! My Mom always had the sox on T.V. going back to the Rico Petrocelli / Yaz’ days...Bill “spaceman” Lee...George Scott . Fenway is GREAT to go to but I just get bothered by the cost pretty much pricing out the fans who got baseball to where they are . You figure a Dad and two son’s will spend upwards of 200.00 dollars plus to see a game now....So that is why I was SOOOO disgusted when they went on strike , that was the last straw for me.

The A’s Sean Manaea pitching in the ninth, three-outs away from a no-hitter against the Sox.
