NYPD seizes gun collection, ‘unprecedented’ amount of ammo (PHOTOS)

The guns and ammo were found in the basement of a 60-year-old man’s home in Queens after a search warrant (Photos: NYPD)

Officers with the 81st Precinct in the Bayside area of Queens seized over 60 guns and quantity of ammunition from an area man after a tip about illegal weapons.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced Monday that Ronald Drabman, 60, was arrested over the weekend and charged with a staggering 110 weapons violations, mostly for criminal possession. Following a search warrant of his home’s basement, authorities seized 45 long arms, 23 pistols, a zip gun, a couple of airguns and 50,000 rounds of ammunition.

“The defendant is accused of using his home as a warehouse for illegal firearms – along with tens of thousands of rounds of live ammunition,” Brown said. “This stockpile of weapons poses a great risk to the residents of Queens. It is extremely disturbing to find such an arsenal of firearms in a residential community.”

NYPD Chief of Intelligence Thomas Galati said the gun bust was one of the largest in the department’s history from a single individual and well as what he described as an “unprecedented amount of ammunition.”

The firearms shown off at the conference included a number of collectible arms or at least guns rarely seen in Queens. Among these are an AR with what looks like a Colt Light Machine Gun front end, a Mossberg bullpup shotgun, and a Franchi SPAS-12. One of the rifles seems to be a fairly rare Italian BM59 in a Nigerian pistol grip stock while a Mauser 1934 Pocket Model, Walther P-38, and a Browning Hi-Power rest on table display of pistols.

Well...it is possible he doesn’t have the proper tax stamp for that Thompson sub-machine gun. And not fer nuthin’...but this is where gun registration gets you.

Exactly...

I have leftwinger friends whom I have known DECADES who would instantly turn me in for $100 if a “national confiscation and reward program” were launched

Well there shouldn’t be a shooting in Queens for at least a day now!

Looks like a decent collection, they appear quite clean.

This man is guilty of gross stupidity. Living in a police state and being a gun collector is stupid. He should have moved to a Free State.

The NYPD wasn`t founded until 1845.
The NYPD had to ask special permission of the NY State Legislature to be founded and armed. The citizens of NY City had weapons in their houses for over 50 years before the NYPD was even in existence.
This goes to show that the baby is killing the mother.

You know I am of the opinion that New York City, and the other liberal cities like it should be made Federal districts.

They suffer from a terminal case of liberalism and cannot be saved.

I don’t think we’ll ever get rid of the communist hoplophobes in this state and city. Barring the Trump admin arresting 95% of the “leaders” here, nothing will change for the better.

I’m (unfortunately) a native-born New Yorker and believe in Natural Rights, endowed by our Creator, that no man may forcibly eliminate from my life. To do such is to enslave.

Looks more like a collection than an arsenal. There are just a few scary black rifles that could shoot 1000 rounds per second, but the rest are just personal defense or hunting/recreation pieces.

To the general public, they probably all look like they could shoot 1000 rounds per second.

It also looks like there are a couple of AK design based squad automatic weapons, much like British Bren guns, that could be machine guns due to full auto capability. Aside from that, nice collection.

If I had moved to NYC from TN before the Horrible Boating Accident, taking all of my toys with me, I’d have had almost as much exposure as this poor guy. Sucks to be a New Yorker, and he never committed a real crime.

NH as well. I have a collection and all the ammo I will ever need. Not to mention we have Constitutional carry.

Or it may just be a Kahr Arms semiautomatic. I’d bet it’s the latter considering how much real tommy guns cost.

Yeah, I couldn’t make a call on those because they could easily be semi-auto. The article didn’t mention machine gun other than possible, but I wonder what all the violations are....besides not being registered.

Seems just an average collection in Utah, Idaho or Wyoming.

I would agree. A few years ago a close friend took me to his nephew's home to view the nephew's personal collection. When we went down into the basement and the nephew opened up the safe, my jaw hit the floor. His collection made the photo above look like a beginner's collection. None of his collection were classics but rather modern firearms.

What's unusual is that the nephew doesn't hunt but rather just loves firearms. My estimate is that he has well over $250K invested in his collection............

He's also an expert in reloading which he learned from his father.......

What was the charge?
Didn’t mention a law being broken in the excerpt.

Just having a handgun without state permission in NY is, I believe, a felony. In NYC getting that permission is next to impossible. Don’t know about the long guns.

The 2nd photo shows an AR with a short (10”-11”?) barrel AND carbine buttstock; and the 5th photo shows an Uzi with collapsable stock AND barrel that appears (to me) to be less than 16” in length. Either/both of those might require approval (as SBRs) under federal law/regs...
