I'm sure weve all heard about how reliable and not accurate they are, but just how true is this? Theres been a plethora of AKs that hadnt been cleaned in 10 years and its still shoots just fine. I wanted to see just how accurate these rifles truly were and exactly what they can withstand.
Accuracy The AK-47 is not the most accurate weapon when compared to other assault rifles, such as the M4(AR-15). The accuracy of the AK usually when taken out of the box is steady at 4 inch group. Though over time, changes in its accuracy begin to spread out to 5.8 inch group at 100 yards. This is more than likely due to poor maintenance. When compared to the accuracy of the M4, which can easily hold a 3 inch group at 100 yards.
The reason for the AKs lack of accuracy is due to its functioning and projectiles ballistic coefficient. The AK-47 is made up of only a few moving parts. There are fewer parts, these parts are made up of large chunks of metal. Take the bolt for example once fired. The hunk of metal that unlocks and flies back once fired is pretty heavy when compared to the M4.
As it rides the railing and slams to the back, the weapons harmonics are disturbed significantly, take a look at a few videos of the AK-47 fired in slow motion and see the amount of barrel whip. Read the rest of the AK47 accracy and reliability story here.
The utility of the AK-47 in combat is not it’s accuracy; it’s it’s versatility.
NATO ammunition captured in the field could be used in the AK-47; not the case for our stuff. You put a soviet AK-47 round in an M14 and it will jam or worse.
From the article: “The AK-47 is not the most accurate weapon when compared to other assault rifles, such as the M4(AR-15). “
They are helping out the MSM by branding the AR15 & AK47 as assault rifles. So obviously, the AR in AR15 must mean assault rifle. I guess the AK must mean assault kriffle.
I have a couple Molot VEPRS, they are very accurate, not as accurate as my Tx made AR 15 but damn accurate
The thing with the AK is the receiver is thin and flexes.
Ones made on thicker receivers have better accuracy
I have an assault rock and a pointy stick
Have you actually tried putting 7.62×51 NATO in a 7.62x39 chamber? I doubt it. Definitely 5.56 ammo is not going to work.
In real life, most combat takes place under 100 yards. For longer distances, each Russian squad has a marksman with a scoped Dragunov rifle.
And the Dragunov works well with with 7n1 ammo
It works pretty good with any old ammo
Heavy, too. Hard to find magazines for, as well.
You don't know anything about weapons do you? 7.62 NATO is 7.62 X 51 and the Soviet version is 7.62 X 39. Where do you think those extra 12 millimeters of case length go when you try to chamber our stuff in their weapon?
The AK is a decent functional weapon but it is inaccurate because it has a short sight radius, a mushy trigger, open sights, and weird harmonics. It is designed primarily as a submachinegun and if you're lucky enough to me missed by the first round, the rest go right on upward over your head.
Sorry, Bud - I spent way too much time actually dealing with these things and I have no patience for amateurs.
Got an old Mosin Nagant made in 1897 in Setstroyetsk Russia.
I was in the Imperial army of the Czar, then it saw WW1, the Revolution, then it was captured in the Winter war by the Finns, Sako accurized it and then it went to WWII
Somehow it landed here in TX, $100.
Thing hucks 7.62 pretty good
One of, if the most beautiful firearms ever made.
A guy down in Fla makes great 20 round mags cheap.
They are heavy rifles
Heavy receivers, heavy barrels
**** AR 10s aint light
>The thing with the AK is the receiver is thin and flexes.
I presume you’re referring to the AKM.
>Ones made on thicker receivers have better accuracy.
Like the original AK-47 or the ones with RPK type receivers.
The Russkie Submachine gun of choice was the PPSH 43
Weird ass design the recoil buffer was a piece of oiled leather
The AK is a medium duty rifle
The thing about most of Ivans stuff was it was made so any potato farmer could operate it
I have both a Saiga rifle and an AR-15. For accuracy, its no contest. If your target is more than 100 yards away and is not larger than man sized, it starts to get iffy whether you can consistently hit it every time with the Saiga. At 200 yards its really dicey. Meanwhile, the AR-15 still has no problem consistently hitting the target at that range.
Im sure plenty of guys are far better shots than I, but Im skeptical as to the ability of any standard combat round like 5.56 Nato or 7.62X39 to be reliably accurate at even 400 yards. Of course most small arms exchanges take place at much closer ranges.
ARAK-21 all of the versatility with none of the problems.
Yeah VEPRs are made on RPK receivers its just .5mm thicker and they beef up the rear and barrel trunions.
Makes a world of difference.
If I can ding a man sized steel target with anything at 400 yards 5 out of 10 times, I am pretty happy, but I can do that with Saiga, Vepr or PSL
They aint bad
You can also see the barrel flexing around the gas port in super slow motion.
