For all those who are steamed up over the strike in Syria, just remember HHS loses that much money in accounting errors every month.
$100 million for 105 cruise missiles.
As for their actual impact, 105 cruise missiles are no more a deterrent for Assad, nor provocation for Russia, than the 59 cruise missiles last year.
It's apparent Russia turned off their S400 systems and let the US have a fireworks display.
Nobody believes it changes anything in Syria. Or the calculus employed in Iran or Norklandia.
No biggie unless you are on the receiving end.
Sure, if you’re one of the targets.
But 99% of Assad’s military was not a target, nor Iranian or Russian forces.
It takes a Marie Harf class of stupid to look at this incident and decide the important consideration is the price of the ordnance.
All as planned, a chapter in the big show. Now someone gets a nice contract to make some new TLAM’S.
So what was accomplished other than angering a not insignificant portion of DJTs base?
Just burning through the stocks of Tomahawks to justify expense of a new missile system or more JASSMs (first use & delivered by B-1b).
It more than paid for itself in the message sent to Iran, Russia and the region. The United States can act with impunity and Russia can’t save you.
It’s not THE consideration.
What is of import is that it’s a joke if intended as a deterrent, and the risk was non-existent from Russia.
It is if you’re a cruise missile vendor.
...Or target!
“So what was accomplished other than angering a not insignificant portion of DJTs base?”
Near as I can tell, nothing.
Though I would like to hear a plausible story of some benefit to the US.
YES.
Did the Rooskies turn off their system....or did we? Or someone else a little south of Syria?
“The United States can act with impunity and Russia cant save you.”
I MISSED that one.
That is of HUGE geopolitical and strategic benefit!
There are piles of aging, obsolete cruise missiles.
You can put acquisition costs on them, but they certainly aren’t worth that anymore.
The best way to use up old munitions is in near-war conditions target practice.
Like this exercise was.
Note that the WWII torpedo scandal (US torpedos turned out to be worthless in 1941-42) was because of insufficient realistic testing pre-war.
Another $100M pissed away.
So if Putin chooses to respond in a few days, a week or a month from now your theory is kaput?
So what was accomplished other than angering a not insignificant portion of DJTs base?
I am part of the base and cant imagine ever voting for anyone in the Republican party against Trump. Ever.
And I am not angered by this stupidity, just saddened. Deeply saddened.
Its clear to me that despite Trumps many great qualities, he has allowed himself to be distracted by this horrendously irrelevant BULLSHIT. Meanwhile, all over the United States, the Democratic Party of Hate America and Destroy the Constitution is actively gearing up to openly allow illegals to vote in every district they control.
I dont really give a flying f* about any of the American-haters in Syria.
Hmmm. I didn’t hear the HARD evidence on if it was assad for certain, the russians for some reason or the “rebels” trying to make it look like assad or the russians did it. So possibly PDJT knows things I/we don’t? Any assessment of the photos to see if the same actors were in use that sometimes appeared in multiple gaza atrocities? Same small kids, same rescuers, same emergency vehicles?
how so? it dint stop the Israeli strike
