That slide breakage did happen but was extremely rare and only with guns which had been fired extensively with +P+ ammo. Beretta put in a fix so that if it did happen, the rear part of the slide would not leave the frame.
It’s always a plus, when they identify problems (& fixes) early, rather than after they produce tens of thousands of units...
