Feedback on the new shingles vaccine? I usually lie low on medical treatment and don't go for 'the latest' treatment on much of anything. But then, I am healthy. Any feedback about this new vaccine? Side-effects? Avoid it? Go for it? Just collecting data here, thanks.
How new is this? I had vac 2 years ago. If you had old one, can you get the newer on top of it?
Yes I believe it was, I was only 47 at the time, docs were surprised I developed it at that age. But yes, stress can bring it on.
Can't do it.
Got vaccinated in the 60's and I'm now illiterate and got AIDS too.
I was fine last week.
When I got the vaccine last year, I was told that you never need it again.
Shingles is not something you want to contract, it's very painful and there is no effective treatment other than to let it run its course, which may amount to many weeks. Never had it but those close to me have, and it wasn't pretty.
Anyway, my retarded psycho kids have pretty much taken
over the AMC bowling place so I can now score free ugly
shoes and poorly made cold hot dogs. And a paper towel.
Winning.
I had them a few years ago across the top of my head and down my neck. The most painful thing I ever experienced. I got the vaccine after the fact and it had no side effects. I didn’t realize that the same virus that causes chickenpox, Bells Palsy, shingles and a few other illnesses are all related. Unfortunately for me, I had them all. Including one that causes hearing loss. I just don’t remember what it is called.
“So I sprang for the vaccine, which wasnt covered by insurance and set me back about $230.”
Just to let some other people know, in case it might help them, my ins initially denied my attempt to get the vaccine (while at the Drs office). I looked into it a little more and it turned out they WOULD cover the claim if I had it done at a pharmacy. So that’s where I went.
But you are stuck with the mediocre effectiveness of the old vaccine forever, as I am, unless you get the new one (which you can do, medically speaking)
Not sure if it was the ‘new’ vax, but I got the shingles shot several years ago. My bro got a case of shingles and was in severe pain. I hoped to avoid that. So far, I have not had a breakout.
I got mine at Walgreens. I had a copay of about $50 and the insurance paid the remaining $150.
I did not have any side effects.
I also got the original pneumonia shot at the same time in the opposite arm. About 2 years later, my doctor recommended and I got the Prevnar 13 pneumonia shot. Medicare covered the costs for both pneumonia shots.
No side effects from them either.
I did mine at a pharmacy.
But, its possible that the non-coverage was in part due to the fact that it was January, and even on Medicare, there is a minor deductible.
I’ll have to ask my doc about that. Thanks.

Lucky!
My wife has it now! Horrible disease. She’s in severe pain. If you didn’t get the vaccine, do it now!
I grew a third eyeball that helps me type my blog.
I got the older one, no problems.
Get the new one if you can. I am told it has two administrations.
Even if it less than 100% effective, it is worth it if you have ever dealt with someone who has had shingles...that looks like one of the most miserable conditions.
I read recently that Admiral William Halsey had to sit out the Battle of Midway due to shingles.
I been training them.
Now we got chili dogs and bad pizza for a week, SWAT teams not withstanding.
Plus weak beer too.
Trust me when I say, no matter the co$t, it is worth it.
Exactly. I have worked with patients who have had it, and my mother had one of the worst cases they had ever seen...as soon as I was eligible, I got it.
No questions about it. I don’t want shingles. Ever.
My wife has it now. She said that it was worse than childbirth & she’s had 6 kids!
