I first made that observationyou can vote for conservatism, but you cant get itquite a few years ago. Sadly, it remains true, as exemplified by the $1.3 trillion spending monstrosity that President Trump signed today.
How bad is the bill? Rand Paul tweeted in real time as he read the billor as much of it as he could read through in the hours available. He produced a number of tweets, here are just a few of them:
Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are gleeful, as they should be. They are in an enviable position: they dont have to win elections in order to govern.
You can read the roll call vote here. It is interesting to see how Republican senators voted. But the Democrats who voted No are even more interesting. A few are random, like Ed Markey and Claire McCaskill, although leadership obviously made sure there were plenty of Yes votes to pass the bill. But the Senate Democrats who are seeking national office all voted No: Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
Why? Im not sure. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the legislation includes no DACA change, or maybe they just dont want to vote for any bill that Donald Trump signs. In any event, they are all staking out a position to the left of an outcome that has Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer popping champagne corks. That is where the Democratic Party is today.
But back to the original point: all Republicans, and some Democrats, run on a platform of smaller government, less spending and lower taxes. Voters, more often than not, elect such candidates. But the forces pressing for more and more spending, toward ends that are increasingly removed from the proper purposes of government, are inexorable. Barack Obama said that elections matter. He was only half right: you can vote for conservatism, but you cant get it.
>>you can vote for conservatism, but you cant get it.
50 years of social engineering in the schools and the destruction of the working class by the elites have created a nation where conservatism can’t work anymore.
There are multiple issues that have to be addressed, and it will be difficult. First, we have to do away with career politicians, completely. No one should EVER be in public office for a cumulative period of more than 16 years - including all local, state, and federal offices held. No one should hold any federal office for more than 12 years. Second, we need to make ANY political manipulation based on blackmail a crime with an automatic lifetime sentence to prison, without parole. This would be a good start.
OMG Seriously? Stop with the “Trump Screwed us” , liberal propoganda. Are people this dense to think , the man suddenly turned on us? Stop this cuckery.Low IQ liberal spewage all day today .
When the indictments start rolling in, the RATs won’t be gleeful. Count on it.
... pigs will fly. Unless you are talking about Trump or someone associated with him at some time. The Deep State will remain untouched. The DEMs and the GOPe will run out the string until Nov 2018, then you can kiss justice goodbye.
In Lebanon you had a Christian general declare a war and then run the other way, and I fear we got the same thing with Trump-Session poking the liberal animal instead of defeating it soundly in rhetoric
We need new GOP senators.
Flake, Corker, Hatch, Heller, Alexander, Graham, McCain, Murkowsky, Hoeven, Rubio, Tillis, Burr, Lankford, Gardner, Cornyn, Cochran, Collins, Sasse, Kennedy, Shelby, Ernst, Blunt, McConnell, Wicker, Portman, Isakson, Johnson, Toomey, Rounds, Thune, Gaines, Barasso and Enzi are all Bush League Republicans hell bent on making America into North Mexico
That ain’t gonna happen.
Wrong, we only need to follow the ten commandments. Did Lyin’ Ryan or the turtle Mitch follow them? No. These Rino bastards are the problem. Elected office is now a way to fleece the electorate and cash in. Screw you Ryan, Mcconnel, Pelosi and Schumer, FU.
And this year, voters in Utah and Texas, two of the "reddest" states in the Union, have to choose between holding their noses and voting for a deep-state RINO, voting third party, or staying home.
I don’t think there is a third party that supports constitutional principles which is fielding a candidate in the Texas general election for senator on November 6. Those who don’t want “Beto” O’Rourke have no option but to vote for Cruz.
I feel betrayed, not just by Trump, but by other allegedly GOPers as well.
Ann Coulter says it best...
"CONGRATULATIONS, PRESIDENT SCHUMER!"
It is not difficult.
No border wall, no sign bill.
I feel betrayed. (And I'm absolutely not into "liberal propaganda".)
.
AZ is being manipulated into electing McSallycain to replace Flake as Amnesty Senator.
MS is still in Haley Barbour’s pocket. They’ll get another Bush League Republican.
TN is a possible gain.
Luke 22:25
And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors
My thoughts exactly. We all need a gut check. Trump may not be perfect but he’s the best we’ve got and a real Patriot.
Since the President is supposed to represent the interests of the whole nation, give him the line item veto.
Its time to be angry at the Congress who put this monstrosity in front of Trump and backed him into a corner. They are the ones flouting the will of the people. One would think they would get a clue since the voters have been rejecting socialism since the Clinton era, but no. They decide instead to go along with the socialist destroy America agenda of Schumer and Pelosi.
Unfortunately, despite best intentions, too many representatives get Stockholm syndrome when they are elected and move into the hostile environment of the swamp. They need to remain in their home districts, away from the swamp bullies. Many of them become corrupt with money and power. Term limits will curtail that. Also, it would be great to have a law that no politician may profit from their office, with removal from office if they are found to be profiting.
Trump still is our best hope for draining the swamp. But the swamp may be too powerful for anything but total collapse of the government to destroy.
It happens around here periodically.
