The Arctic is melting catastrophically! Sea ice levels are experiencing their most precipitous decline in 1500 years! Something must be done and fast Well, so claims the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and we know by now what that means, dont we?
Yep: the Arctic sea ice is doing just fine. Yep: yet again, the NOAA is telling porkies.
As usual, Paul Homewood has got its number.
First, heres what the NOAA is claiming, as relayed in a scaremongering piece at Vox:

Here’s the simplest man made climate change model.
When the weather is _________ than average, it is proof of man made climate change. When the _________ ice sheet is __________, it is consistent with models and proof showing man made climate change.
Do this for me. Take a glass of water and place 3 large ice cubes in it. Then carefully mark the water level on the glass. Then allow the ice to completely melt . look at the water level now!! ITS THE SAME!!!
Yeah, but if the ice is on land and it melts into the ocean, then you’d get a rise.
Suspend your ice above the glass, and let it melt. You’ll see a rise.
Nevertheless, I don’t buy the whole global warming hoax.
That is mostly true. (there are small increases in volume as the entire glass of water warms).
But, the increase in sea level from ice melting would be from ice that is over land, not on the oceans.
Plenty of ice over Greenland and Antarctica to raise sea levels *if* it melted.
It would take quite a while to melt, and we would adapt.
Alright... who inherited that as****e James Hansen's job?
Name please? I can't give a rat sass to remember or look up the title...
bkmk
I understand about land Ice. but the whole thing is a giant hoax. I saw where NOAA is lying again and left out the cold data for the northeast this winter. Such frauds. It should be prosecuted as fraud of taxpayer money.
“Plenty of ice over Greenland and Antarctica to raise sea levels *if* it melted.”
Greenland is essentially an inlandsis, it’s as if all its ice is in a cup. *If” melted, the ice would create a big lake instead of a rising sea.
BTW, Greenland and Antartica are **gaining** mass, meaning they get too much snow and don’t shed enough icebergs.

And, does this take into account the amount of water that is removed via the evaporation due to the heating from the sun?
Nope.
I’m sure that if all the ice on land melted, the water levels would raise, somewhat, across the globe. However, I do not believe that will happen (until the sun goes supernova, and we’re gonna fry anyway), nor do I believe that mankind has any affect on this. If we did, how did we go from dinosaurs and the tropical climate around the world to an ice age, and then back to a more tropical climate?
If all the ice at the polar caps melted, the sea level would rise about 230 feet.
There is plenty of indications of this from geological times when it was so. Lots of sea shell fossil on land that is now high and dry.
But, it takes lots of time to melt all that ice. The land that is above water is much more productive, and temperatures are likely to be more even across the world.
Mankind would have plenty of time to adapt.
Plenty of fossils of trees in the Sahara desert and across Antartica.
