Probably the most important development in medicine has been antibiotics.
But we’re overusing them.

In 250 years, they'll be saying the same thing about now. Yep.

Yeah, it must have been amazing when anyone survived the medicine of that age.
We are blessed to live in the modern era, where doctors are just the third leading cause of death.

GW would have had opium available to him. The federal government did not concern itself with such matters in those days.

I am well aware of that. I do not respond to any of the ‘cillins. And I am allergic to neomycin.

It is the curse of celebrity. The more famous you are, the more doctors will crowd around with their latest quack nostrums to cure you and gain some share of your fame.
Example: President Garfield would have probably survived his gun shot if it hadn't been for 20 'doctors' sticking their fingers in the hole, and pontificating...

I don’t know where you got that nonsense, but contemporary medicine saves lots of lives. My life has been saved twice by doctors, from conditions which would have been fatal decades ago.

I don’t doubt that there’s a great deal of current medical practice that will appear barbaric and even stupid 200 years hence, too, particularly in dealing with cancer.

IIRC, he went out in bad weather that day and died that night. The person there said he died peacefully, without any sign of distress.

I appear to be allergic to penicillin.
Lately I’ve used oil of oregano for things like oncoming colds and what seemed to be a gum or tooth issue. Passion Flower and Valerian for sleep, Oscillococcinum for onset of colds/flu. All work pretty well, for me.
My brother recently found the Boiron Calendula cream as good as the pharmaceutical stuff, for his dry/itchy skin.
Some of the natural stuff works, and of course it is always going to be individual. But if TPTB never put the effort into studying something, they can always say “There is no proof...” - and that goes down as if they had said “Doesn’t work”.
(Having said all of that, sound nutrition and a temperate life in all respects probably represent the best way to avoid health issues.)

The Journal of the American Medical Association.
Glad you were saved. Many are not so fortunate.

He was extremely preserved and recognizable, but his hair was gone. He probably is still preserved very well.
Possibly the mercury at work. It might have acted as a preservative. I know there have been cases of arsenic poisoning where the body wouldn't decay because the arsenic killed any bacteria that tried to grow there.
Just a hypothesis, though.

I think hands down, our best president. No question.
I think a couple may fight hard for second place, but for me, best president is George Washington, no one comes close. Not after all he did, and could have done for himself, but did not do.

Oil of Oregano can kill off any bacteria. Genuine Manuka honey as well.

I recall that you told me about Manuka honey before - what’s special about it?
