This may be something that most EDC crowds dont think about is your clothing.
How well can an outdoor jacket and a thin long sleeve shirt protect the skin, compared to a cut resistant sleeve advertised by DAS Leben on Amazon?
This is something that was discussed on a gun and self defense forum.
Supposedly, this slash resistant arm guard can hold up to the claim.
Youtuber Skallagrim went out and tested this and the results were not good. Take a look.
Just out of curiosity Skallagrim decides what if you only wear a thin long sleeve top with a rain jacket over it.
The results were surprising against these bladed instruments.
Spyderco Manix 2
Extrema Ratio Resolza
Cheburkov Scout
Grohmann Canadian Belt Knife
It was an eye opener for anyone thinking that you need to buy a self-defense gadget. Though most of the cuts did penetrate both garments, the dummy skin remain untouched or lightly scathed. See the full EDC Kit footage here.
EDC at one time meant “expected date of confinement (delivery date).
Emergency Defense Clothing?
Come on! It’s 95 degrees out, 90% humidity. I’d be dying IF I worn anything heavier working outside than a cotton short-sleeve shirt and blue jeans.
Do these people think everybody walks around downtown NYC, LA, Chicago, Detroit, Portland, Seattle, Boston or Washington DC? At night, needing a jacket and coverup 3/4 of the year?
Hey! I’m an old lady...what do I know??? :-)
As testing videos go, this was horrible.
I expect more from this youtuber. His videos are great. That video was about to go viral, to be used as standard evidence in the event of knife slashes. But the dummy (While expensive looking, I’ll give it that) wasn’t properly prepared. The slash marks weren’t documented and there were too many variables (He even says that the jacket is threadbare)
That’s me from the comfort of my Internet chair.
