During a shutdown are any aspects of the Constitution curtailed? Can, for example, the president take unilateral action over his branch where Congressional approval would otherwise be required? Does a shutdown mean anything more than that some bill payments are postponed? How is this different than at any other time when the gov does not pay its bills on time?

basically - DJT has complete discresion which agencies to ‘temporarily’ suspend. The Feds run a 10% deficit so all DJT needs to do is find 10-15% fat and cut it. Then the feds will run cash flow positive.

It’s a wonderful thing

Time to up the stakes.

Bring up a military and DHS funding bill ONLY.

Let’s see where these scumbag politicians vote on that.

As for the rest of the “non-essential” government, it can and SHOULD be SHUT DOWN FOREVER!

When the people realize that they are being taxed to pay a bunch of do nothing imbeciles that aren’t even necessary, all hell will break loose.

This is the perfect opportunity to PERMANENTLY reduce the size of the FEDERAL APPARATCHIK.

As long as the military and ONLY essential elements of government are funded, there is no reason to bring the rest of them back.

“Despite the drama, a shutdown is not really a shut down. Essential services continue.

It’s more of a scale-back, and the government has a lot of discretion as to what gets scaled back. In a press conference today OMB Director Mick Mulvaney made the point that many agencies have reserve funds that can be used, but weren’t used in the 2013 shutdown.”

“Visitors to national parks will be prevented from using the full-service restrooms. Tourists won’t be able to get into the National Air and Space Museum after Sunday. The Internal Revenue Service will stop issuing refunds, but it will also stop conducting audits.

At first glance, the tangible consequences of the latest government shutdown may seem less than overwhelming. After all, the mail will still get delivered, airport control towers will still be staffed and the border patrol will continue to guard the country.
