The GOPs effort to gain some breathing room with its Senate majority took a hit Friday, as U.S. Senate candidate Josh Mandel dropped out of the Ohio race due to his wifes health, according to USA Today.
Mandel was considered the frontrunner to challenge Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown.
Why is he dropping out? Mandel issued a press release explaining his decision. Here is an excerpt:
We recently learned that my wife has a health issue that will require my time, attention and presence. In other words, I need to be there. Understanding and dealing with this health issue is more important to me than any political campaign. For as long as that takes, whether it is months or years, it is important that I heed my dads advice and be there for my wife and our kids.
Who can replace him? Some political experts dont see this as a serious blow to the GOP because Mandel didnt have much of a chance against Brown anyway. Rather, this could be an opportunity.
Democrats, whether the state party or Sherrod Browns campaign, took it to him every single day, said Jennifer Duffy, a Senate race analyst for the Cook Political Report. And now that hes out, Republicans might be able to recruit a strong candidate who is more of a fresh face statewide.
Mandel lost to Brown in the 2012 election.
Here are some potential candidates:
Mike Gibbons, a Cleveland banker who was already in the Republican field for the Senate seat Republican gubernatorial candidates Rep. Jim Renacci and Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor U.S. Rep Dave Joyce J.D. Vance, author of Hillbilly Elegy State Sen. Matt Huffman
There was initially some talk about Gov. John Kasich getting involved, but his political consultant John Weaver shut that down quickly, saying Kasich has bigger fish to fry.
If it's Brown, flush it.

Oh, really?
We’ll tar and feather Johnny and run him out of town on a rail if he tries it.
Mary Taylor is running for governor.
Thank God that Kasich is not going to run. It will be bad enough with Willard running in Utah. Two of them would be a total disaster.
There is something about Kasich that not only do I think is creepy, but dangerous. Anyone who wants that kind of power so much for so long is not someone who should be given that kind of power.
Kasick has delusions of grandeur.
The fool actually thinks he can primary President Trump in 2020.
Pig Vomit was a sex “partner” of Gary Condit’s (his bestie). If he tried to mount a campaign for Senator against Brown, the Dems would unleash a torrent of 20 years of his predatory and degenerate sexual behavior in DC that would dwarf the false allegations made against Judge Moore. The only reason the Dems stay quiet now is because he is a useful idiot for the Deep State in attacking Trump. This sicko should’ve been exposed a long time ago and become as reviled as Condit.
Looks like Alan Keyes ...
Kasich? Seriously?
Yep.
Keys v Obama...
The republicans can run a winner and still lose...against a loser...

Same applies to Mittens Romney.

If it werent for that idiot Keyes we would never have had to endure 8 years of Obama. I will never forgive him for that.

Any word if any of them are fully (and actively... and sincerely) on board with the TEA Party/Trump Agenda/Limited Govt/Swamp Drain movement?
BS. Here comes Senator Mailman.
Yup. If this guy had managed to defeat Trump in the ‘16 primaries and gone up against Hillary as a serious candidate, the media would’ve gone nuclear against him. He wouldn’t have, of course, so he’d get to keep all his secrets buried so long as he played the good ringer (like McQueeg and Willard before him).
Perhaps I should clarify what I meant by sex partner. Picture 2 frat guys in college going around together to nail girls at the same time, that’s what he and Condit did, although it’s very possible they might’ve diddled each other while with “the girls”, as Condit had habits I can’t describe on a family-friendly website. It’s why I believe he has culpability in the Levy murder. I think there’s a whole class of sex degenerates on the hill going back eons, everybody blackmailing everybody else, and the stuff we’ve seen now is barely scratching the surface.
Keyes wasn’t responsible for that mess. He didn’t even know he was being used by a corrupt political cabal to be a hapless candidate they had no intention of helping.
No, the real criminals were the IL Combine who were desperate to get rid of Sen. Peter Fitzgerald, a clean, anti-Combine Reformist Republican. The GOP wing of the Combine spent 6 years making his life hell, harassing him and the like for not only beating their flunkie in the ‘98 primary, but for also dispatching the profoundly corrupt and criminally stupid Carol Moseley-Braun. The “enforcer” for the IL Combine RINO wing was then-Congressman Ray LaHood (AKA LaThug). LaThug was responsible for countless attacks on Fitzgerald. Because the Combine made it clear they were going to bankrupt Fitzgerald if he ran for renomination AND for reelection (if renominated), Fitzgerald said “forget it” and didn’t run for another term because it wasn’t worth the trouble in having to battle two corrupt political parties and a corrupt media lying about him and his record.
When Jack Ryan was nominated to succeed him, it didn’t take them long to take him out over a sex scandal (involving his wanting to have sex with his own wife, a new one to be sure), leaving Zero effectively unopposed for the Senate race (again, I don’t blame Keyes - he didn’t know he was a pawn). Oh, with the Combine getting their Jug-Eared Mohammadan Stalinist installed to succeed Fitzgerald, 4 years later, Zero was able to finally repay Ray LaThug in kind for all his help in removing Fitzgerald from the Senate... a nice Cabinet posting. LaThug’s son now sits in a House seat from Illinois. Same as it ever was.
Not his fault.
That fkr Barry got his opponents divorce records unsealed and the dude caved.
RNC had to run someone and they thought sending a crow to beat a blackbird was best.
Alan did his job but, lost...
The only person who could’ve won that race as a replacement was Coach Mike Ditka... but there was little chance the RINO wing of the Combine would’ve allowed him to be chosen for that. They want corrupt hacks (like Durbin, Suckworth, Mostly-Fraud and Kirk, or Rauner, Quinn, Blago, et al), not independents like Fitzgerald and Ditka might’ve been another Fitzgerald. Keyes was put up so they could claim “Conservatives can’t win” and discourage any others like him (nevermind that Fitzgerald was Conservative and could and did win).
