Spanish Court refuses appeal to prosecute artist for lewd display with the Blessed Sacrament

A lawyer's warning that a judge's ruling would give license to attack Catholics with impunity is proving to be valid.

Two churches in Madrid were broken into and the consecrated hosts stolen after a Spanish appeals court rejects an appeal to prosecute a homosexual artist for a 2015 performance using consecrated hosts. The first theft took place on December 19 when the chapel at San Francisco de Paula seniors' home run by the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul was forced open, and the ciborium was stolen. Many consecrated hosts were left scattered on the ground. This followed the December 18 desecration of a nativity scene that was turned into a pornographic display.

The trend today is to allow Christianity to be destroyed, but to go ballistic with hypocritical outrage whenever the least insignificant insult is done to *slam.

Priest murdered. Small outrage. Bacon on mosque. Insane outrage.

You can go to a modern art facility( or not), and play a little game called, “count the penises.” Seriously. So many gay men in”art,” that the penis is a major recurring theme. They love profaning Christ as well- it’s like peanut butter and chocolate to them. Penises and a crucifix in urine. They would never smear feces on a koran, though, because they don’t want to splode/stabby/headchop

Doesn’t the consecrated host immediately become unconsecrated once it is stolen or otherwise desecrated? After that it’s just bread, right?

According to Catholic doctrine, no. That is why it is not allowed to be brought home, or held in possession for any purpose other than to be eaten. 1 Cor 11:28-29

That’s too bad. Perhaps the Church should revisit the issue.

I remember from 10 years of Catholic parochial school, that transubstantiation taking place just before the host is given to the faithful.

Before that it is merely bread and wine.

First, a consecrated Host remains the Body of Christ as long as the Host retains the appearance and physical characteristics of bread.

In Communion, the Real Presence remains until the Host is digested.

Second, even if it were true that an intact consecrated Host could become unconsecrated (which It can't), the outrage would still be against a sacred symbol. Committing a sacrilege with a cross or crucifix, for instance, is still desecration even though it's just wood.

Abandon the truth about “This is My Body”? No way.

Prescinding from the question of transubstantiation, it would be a sacrilege even if it were an act of contempt against the elements of, say, a Baptist "Lord's Supper". It would be a sacrilege even if it were, say, sh**ing on a picture of Jesus Christ.

The vicious intent is the same.

Do you get the part about "sacrilege"? WayneS?

If I offended you it was not intentional. I am not Catholic but I am fascinated by the history and traditions of the Catholic Church. 95% of the time when I ask a question on a thread related to Catholicism it is because I sincerely want an answer. I will own up to posting an occasional joke on a religion thread but I try to make sure those are obvious.
