Have you ever wondered if the Founding Fathers spoke with a British accent? I know I have. Well here is the answer.
The typical English accent didnt develop until after the Revolutionary War, so Americans actually speak proper English. Here comes the science.

“Ha Ha Ha my mom used to say Los AnGeleez. She was the only one. I used to look at her weird. No idea where that came from!”
Hard g is closer to Spanish pronunciation, of LA.
This Texan had to endure two years up there taking your flack about using all the letters of the alphabet.
Don't get me started on the women with male voices. There is no amount of Viagra that could fix hearing that.
Last thing; it is Massachusetts, not MASS.
“Last thing; it is Massachusetts, not MASS. “
Who said it WAS?
.
I you were/are from "MASS" then you would know what town is called PBD.
Haven’t a clue about PBD——guess we traveled in different circles.
.
I stand corrected. Y’all.

Thanks——never heard the abbreviation before——and now that I’ve heard the answer I’m embarrassed that I didn’t get it.
Clever.

Yep there’s southern which is the Jeff Sessions thing and then there’s country which is twangy and more Appalachian.
I grew up in middle and eastern TN but my family is from all over the place. — Vermont, the Dakotas, the Carolinas, Louisiana. Nobody ever knows where I’m from. The AL locals think I’m from California when they first meet me.
I have a test that anyone can use to get the most die hard Southy, North bay or those in "Woosta" to use all the letters of the alphabet.

My Mississippi born dad could tell someone what part of the South they hailed from by the peculiarities of their accent. He was right more often than not.
He says that his father was very conscious of not speaking “country”, the accent that so many conflate with Southern. None of my cousins spoke that way for that matter. Just Southern accents.
I’ve got the English of Jamestown mixed with Scots, Scots Irish and Irish. Figure I’ve got all sides of every civil war they ever fought covered. Plus New Orleans French and German filtered through Texas on my mom’s side. Someone might be able to guess my background through figures of speech- I’ve taken tests that try to pinpoint your background through word choice, and one came uncannily close- it chose my parent’s two Southern regions and my own northern VA youth.
Give any native a item to read out loud with out proof reading. Praise The Lord, they will speak English
Most of the North Shore is gorgeous.
I grew up in a three decker, not in Dorchester, and it was a great place to grow up in,we all did very well, and I ended up in a 10 room house in Newton.
I have visited Texas and enjoyed it very much——never lived there though———too much heat for me
.
Odd? That I had several clients waiting to retire so that they could move to Granbury, Texas for a home they purchased in the 70's while building Commanche Peak Nuclear plant.
As long as everyone is happy where they are——that’s the main thing.
2 of my kids and one grandchild have left MA,and maybe more will.
A daughter in law moved here———from Hawaii.
Different strokes ! :-)
.
And the male voices of the women? You have been quiet on that.
I don’t pay much attention to women’s voices————enlighten me.
.
I dont think that neither Newton nor Dorchester qualify as North Shore. I live on the North Shore and have what people think is a wicked Boston accent. But it isnt. It is actually a Merrimack Valley accent.
Acting is a mystery to me, but I can say that Christian Baylor absolutely nailed the Merrimack Valley accent in the movie about the boxer from Lowell. It was spooky how well he could speak it.......... and then I saw him interviewed and he is actually British!
