Being middle class in the US today is better than being middle class and in many cases upper class anywhere else in the world today - something else to be thankful for....

What a shallow list.

I can hop on an airplane and in less than forty-eight hours be anywhere in the world.

My wife or children won’t die during childbirth or shortly thereafter.

Excellent.

I am thankful/grateful for being born in the best time and the best place in human history.

As a history buff sometimes I think it would be fun to live in the past, but then I go to the doctor and I’m thankful for the technology of today. There’s something about leeches and laudable pus from a seeping wound that doesn’t appeal to me.

I’d trade the relative morality, decency, integrity & sanity of 200 years ago for all those creature comforts.

I can watch approved court jesters who are each worth in excess of $20million tell me that they are ‘down with the struggle’ on dozens of boob tube channels.

This Thanksgiving I am especially thankful that fainting hillary is not our president.

Will be giving thanks too for the parents, grandparents, great grandparents, that started with so little and every generation until now have been able to give their kids just a little bit more.

With the government about to make the final move to set up the tax system to take everything extra that the middle class makes and ridiculous medical deductibles, lots of people are going to figure out that work is for suckers.

Dark days on the horizon.

The major difference not acknowledged in this list is that as the world’s richest man 200 years ago, even without the comforts of the modern age, you would be getting more and better tail than any middle class man today. Any woman you wanted. That eclipses everything else on the list.

Interesting. I too continue to be impressed by advances in technology (computers and the internet, especially). In some respects people have become more foolish, but technology has been compensating for that.

How long this can go on I don’t know. Eventually we may become so stupid that our technology will destroy us. I’m pessimistic in general.

I’m thankful for the fact that people like you who favor -

Same Sex Marriage
Abortion and Euthanasia
Universal Health Care
Recreational Drug Use
And who vote for idiots like Gary Johnson

- don’t have any real power in this country.

Any FReepers reading this who doubt that these are “Grundle’s” actual positions can find verification here -

As always, it's a two edged sword. The ability for a man to remake himself today is severely limited by the paper and electronic trail everyone makes. Modern medicine and dentistry are a scientific blessing, but we're entering Gattaca territory lately as it pertains to hiring. We have the ability to go online and learn almost any skill, read almost any book, view any art, listen to any music - but it is all tracked and can be weaponized for those following the wrong political fads of the day.

One cannot be connected to this new world and yet maintain privacy. Once cannot navigate this new world and yet establish roots.

It's all nomadic, gig society and neurosis from here on out until our robot masters put a remnant of us in their zoo.
