The self-entitlement attitude of these people beggars the imagination. They truly believe that they are entitled to rule over everyone. They would give us a totalitarianism seldom seen since the Spanish Inquisition.
The Spanish Inquisition wasnt totalitarian.
The Spanish state was quite “liberal” as European states went; thats one reason for the tremendous rate of literary production in Spain, which exceeded anything else in Europe for 200 years, and which the rest of it fed off of all that time. Spain was, perhaps surprisingly, a remarkably free country.
The Inquisition was, for its time, a miracle of due process.
