Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that she had wanted her supporters to give President Trump "a chance" after he was elected in November, rather than going into a "defensive crouch."
"I thought we should give a chance — we had to give an open mind — to the new president. And I meant it," she said in remarks reported by ABC News. "I didn't want everybody who voted for me just immediately going into kind of a defensive crouch."
"Let's see, maybe there will be a pivot, a move away from the horrible rhetoric, the divisive, insulting rhetoric that had fueled his campaign from the first day," she recalled thinking.
Clinton said that after the election she thought her supporters should wait to see whether the real estate mogul's rhetoric on the campaign trail was genuine or simply a way to "consolidate his position in the Republican Party."
"Maybe that's what he felt he had to do to win, so let's give the guy a chance," Clinton said, recalling her thoughts after the election.
"Well, that did not last long," she continued. "And it didn't last long because, clearly, as Maya Angelou said, when people show you who they are, believe them the first time."
Clinton and Trump clashed bitterly in the 2016 presidential election, and some supporters of the former secretary of State's presidential bid have been vocal in their opposition to Trump since he took office.
She just can’t help herself. Filled with all manner of foulness, deceit, corruption and turpitude.

She’ll just say anything. Not being held accountable for anything create monsters. It’s what helped destroy the monarchies.
She is just like the islamic faith. She wanted to give Trump a chance to convert to their thinking. Since he didn’t, they all want him dead.
That’s not what ‘giving someone a chance’ is.

Hard to say, when evaluating Hillary's lies, you know it's one out of thousands, maybe tens or hundreds of thousands. You'd have to compile her every lie, and then rate them. A monumental task, to be sure.

Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton drastically changed her tone while she spoke about President Donald Trump in remarks reported by ABC News’ World News Tonight on Wednesday — the day after it was revealed that her campaign paid for the unverified “Trump-Russia” dossier.
Clinton, who normally is brimming with anger when speaking about Trump, appeared much more subdued than normal.
“I also said that I thought we should give … a chance, we had to give an open mind … to the new President,” Clinton said. “And I meant it.”
“You know, I didn’t want everybody who voted for me just immediately going into kind of a defensive crouch,” Clinton continued.
While she wanted to keep an “open mind” about the new president, Clinton said, that didn’t last long with Trump continuing to promote the “nativist, populist, nationalist, scapegoat” rhetoric he used on the campaign trail.
The video clip was released by ABC News the day after The Washington Post reported that Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Convention (DNC) paid Fusion GPS to conduct “research” on then-candidate Donald Trump.
News that the Clinton campaign and the DNC paid for the dossier — which was used as the basis for investigations into the Trump campaign — prompted a non-partisan group to file a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Wednesday.
The Campaign Legal Center filed the complaint which states that the Clinton campaign and the DNC broke campaign finance laws because they failed to “accurately disclose payments related to the so-called Trump Dossier,” Law Newz reported.
