any Adobe CC licensing experts? Trying get an answer about that and legacy versions

Trying to find an unused retail version (on eBay, etc.) of older versions of Creative Suite is next to impossible, unless you've got a lot of $$. I read that, if a person has a Creative Cloud subscription, he can download legacy versions of Creative Suite from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/other-downloads.html

I have two questions about things that aren't clear:
1. Does the user have to own a previous license for CS6 (or other legacy version), or does the CC license qualify to use both CC and the legacy version?
2. If a user stops the CC subscription after a year, is he still able to continue using the legacy version after that?

Have you considered Photoshop Elements?

I have a current CC license but also have CS3, CS4 and CS5.5 because I own them. The licenses between products are not the same.

I have and use PS 6 and Lightroom 4. Did not buy into their online subscription edition.

Good luck figuring that out. The only thing I can tell for sure is that Adobe wants to move from a ‘you buy our software, you own it’ model to a ‘you rent our software monthly’ model.

If you own a legacy copy of Adobe Creative Suite outright, meaning released prior to the licensing and monthly subscription scheme, then you own it. Choosing to subscribe to gain access to current versions or additional software bundled within CC has no effect upon ownership of any legacy versions you may own, however you’re going to have to be careful in some instances not to inadvertently update your owned, legacy software to the current, licensed subscription version. You cannot use CC to update your legacy software and then still own the resultant updated software, you will have then entered the world of licensed monthly subscription and would need to reinstall the legacy software. I’m using the subscription and don’t particularly like being billed monthly in perpetuity but do need to keep CC updated and current due to client demands and contract work, so I had no choice.

Yes, apparently RegulatorCountry's reply is the answer. I asked the same question on the Adobe forum. If you purchased a previous retail version, you still have it and can always use it -- but if you start on CC and download a previous version (as discussed on https://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2014/01/29/revert-to-a-previous-version-of-premiere-pro-cc-or-any-creative-cloud-application/), you can use that previous version only as long as you have a current CC subscription. If your CC subscription stops, so does your access to the legacy apps.

My goal was to have a somewhat more recent version (I have CS2) without having to get stuck in the subscription cycle. But that just ain't gonna happen -- not in the way I was investigating, anyway.

Thanks for all the replies, fellow FReepers, I do appreciate it!

You rent the new software. Cannot buy old anymore.

I use CS6 myself. I do not like the new look of the CC version.
