Hillary Clinton figuratively took a knee Monday night.
The former presidential candidate pledged her support to the hundreds of NFL players who have protested during the national anthem this season while speaking at the University of California, Davis.
"Let's be clear, those players aren't protesting the national anthem or the flag," Clinton said. "They're protesting racism and injustice, and they have every right to do so!"
The 2016 democratic nominee received a loud applause after her announcement.
Clinton's support of anthem protests is a sharp contrast to her counterpart Donald Trump's stance on the matter. Trump has repeatedly criticized players who protest during the national anthem.
Ironically only hours prior to Clinton's speech, Trump once again addressed the matter on Twitter, praising Cowboys owner Jerry Jones who announced he would bench any player who kneeled or sat during the anthem.
A big salute to Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Trump wrote, who will BENCH players who disrespect our Flag. "Stand for Anthem or sit for game!"
Earlier in her speech Clinton revealed a number of the alleged Russian-linked Twitter accounts that meddled in the presidential election also 'inflamed' arguments related to the national anthem protests debate.
"Just a couple of weeks ago, accounts with suspected links to Russia flooded Twitter with posts about NFL players' peaceful protests," Clinton said. "The Russians posted on both sides of the debate using hashtags like #StandForOurAnthem or #TakeAKnee to inflame passions and stir up disagreements."
Clinton also spoke about how we as a country need to stand up against racist, sexist and homophobic rhetoric and not undo the progress we have made in recent years.
There is a concerted effort to turn back the clock on civil rights and womens rights and gay rights and religious rights," Clinton said, "and we cannot let that happen.
As of late Monday evening, Trump has yet to address Clinton's comments on Twitter.
Nice to see that Hillary FINALLY agrees with Trump that the players have every right to take a knee.
Too bad she didn’t mention whether she also agrees that it’s ok for the owners to fire them afterwards.
Counterpart? Her counterpart is not Donald Trump. Trump won the presidency and she lost her ass. There's nothing counterpart about it.
Her counterparts would be other losers, like John Kerry, Al Gore, Walter Mondale, etc.
She's wrong on this issue like she was on so many other issues that the public rejected her for. She is not in the mainstream and the voters knew it.
Saying they have the right to protest is not the same as saying they're doing the right thing.
The NFL players taking a knee during our National Anthem is de facto evidence that they are protesting America and dishonoring those brave souls who died defending the "rights" of their pampered, rich whiney asses to make a mockery of our patriotic traditions and make fools of themselves in the process.
Hillary saying they're right when they not, is one reason she lost. It's time for her to take a knee and go home. Give the Nation some peace by closing your mouth. You're giving America a headache listening to your drivel.
Of course those thugs, traitors, and losers have every right to protest and disrespect our anthem, our flag, our country, our military, and our ancestors who died preserving, protecting, and defending freedom. Their employers have every right to permit those protests while their ungrateful employees are working in what we used to see as an entertainment job. In return, we have every right to boycott those felons and their sponsors. The NFL is dead to me because they chose to exercise a right that we all agree they have.
They are in the exact position of a married man who tells his wife several times a week, "you're fat and ugly, and I've always found you disgusting." That is an exercise of the First Amendment, and he has the right to say it, but there will be consequences. Whether we are considering the man and wife or the NFL and fans, after repeating a deadly insult until it's clear that the message is intentional, one should not expect the relationship to last.
They have every right — to enjoy the consequences of their actions. If these anthem protestors want to break their employer’s rules, then they may have to nobly pay the price. Good riddance.
She’s right. Even felons have the right to protest. And even if it’s on their employer’s dime, their employer has every right to allow it........or not. That said, everyone else has the right to believe that the protesters are disloyal clowns for what they do, and to stop paying to support them.
She is much more upset that we had a right to vote for the opposition...
Au contraire. Colin Crapperdink said: "I will not stand to honor the flag of a country that oppresses people of color."
I read that Kaepernick is unhappy that his cause is being "watered down" by everyone saying it's not about the flag. It certainly was for him. He's an anti-american communist.
She is not going anywhere.
Maybe her lips at one time....
What happened to Harvey Hillary? So far djt rocking 1600 everyday he gains support as he tends the store. At least Jeb knew when to quit. This woman is stuck on stupid she figuratively having marionette string cutting seizures every couple of days. This is great she is such an oxygen hog
I own season tickets for an NFL team. I have been going to the games. The hometown team has been standing for the anthem. I have not watched a second on TV, but did figure I would see out my investment in tickets. I’ve engaged in my protest by not wearing any team colors or licensed apparel.
Our stadium has been sold out for years and I believe is technically sold out this year. We seat upwards of 60,000. I am guesstimating there were in the range of 39,000 there Sunday. There weren’t wide swaths of empty seats, just 2-6 empties spread throughout from the high dollar seats to the nose bleeds. I came to my number by test counting one section of the stadium. Seats were 65% occupied.
Another measure of interest is ticket prices on the reseller markets like stubhub. Prices are WAY down.
I can say in my corner of flyover, interest and support in the team is waning. Next season ticket renewals will tell the rest of the story.
Harvey who?
This, from the woman who forgot to put any American flags on the stage on the opening day of her "historic" nominating convention.

Yeah, Hillary. I get that they have every right. They do. But actions have consequences, though they may not be LEGAL consequences.
Try playing nothing but Partridge Family songs at your next Rave and see how it goes. Or Rap at your next square dance.
An adult understands that just because you have the right to do a thing, it does not mean it is the prudent thing to do. Especially in a business that depends on nurturing a good relationship with its customers.
Of course they do. If they want to flip off the flag with their ass hanging out, they can.
Employers and fans have the right to fire and boycott, too.
Clinton is not Trump’s “counterpart”. She is the twice failed presidential candidate, and Trump is The President.
There is a concerted effort to turn back the clock on civil rights and womens rights and gay rights and religious rights,” Clinton said, “and we cannot let that happen.
Tell that to the Christian bakers.
...Still nothing on Harvey Weinstein...
They are still spending the pervert’s millions given to the Clinton Crime Family Foundation.
We knew she hates this country.
