Don’t know where you are, but here in Nevada, we have had media coverage of Sheriff updates at least 4 times a day. Was 2 hour intervals on Monday.

The national media cannot keep a sheriff & a police department straight. They keep putting up graphics that identify SHERIFF LOMBARDO as a member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Only the Reno media has their graphics straight.

A SHERIFF is the SHERIFF of the WHOLE COUNTY!! That would be Clark County in this case. He draws a County paycheck-—Mot a City of Las Vegas paycheck.

Exactly.

Very few people know any difference between Sheriff’s and local PDs.

Here in the Midwest I know of only one County-City merger:

NDIANAPOLIS (July 16, 2014) - In 2004, as part of his “Indy Works” plan to merge several functions of city and county government, then-Mayor Bart Peterson’s proposal to combine the Indianapolis Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department predicted that $8.8 million in annual savings would pay for the consolidation.

After several years of refusal to fulfill obligations for an audit of the merger under the original City-County Council consolidation ordinance, a recently completed but selectively revealed report finds that the savings were never realized.
