And a lack of historical knowledge. I bet most citizens have no clue about the history of European anti-Semitism. The Spanish were by far the worst (until Hitler). They persecuted and drove out the Jews. They were left with Jews who converted to Christianity, the Conversos; but that wasn't good enough for Ferninand. Soon lies were drummed up about them still being secretly Jews and many were burned alive. (sounds a lot like the Nazis who hunted down people who even had 1/4 Jew in their bloodline)

And what about the Russian pogroms. They were not saints, and part of the first wave of Jews to Palestine.
