SEATTLE - Amazon's announcement Thursday that it's looking to base a second headquarters in new North American location garnered quick reaction from leaders across the state.

While the company said that it plans to keep its Seattle space, it will spend more than $5 billion to build another "full equal" headquarters that will house as many as 50,000 employees. Cities and states have a month to apply, and the company will make a final decision next year.

Phoenix: If Amazon opens a facility in Maricopa County, Bezos can hire Joe Arpaio as Chief Security Officer.

And don’t forget the $15 minimum wage. Lookes like government trying to pass the blame.

Real question— just what productive work would be received by amazon if it really hired another 50,009 office workers? Wth would, could that many added paper- pushers do for the firm all at once? Even big successful firms like dont suddenly need 50,009 additional office workers ? Even the people’s republic of china doesn’t hire that many new office denizens all at once. What’s really going on ?

After the chastisement there will be no more mega corporations and no more communists. Almost looking forward to it.

“Denver? Maybe not.”

Denver, (actually all of Colorado), essentially has only two highways that actually go anywhere: north-south I-25 and east-west I-70. Both are parking lots in the Denver metro area during rush hour. (Denver too has succumbed to spending its transportation money on riderless light rail and Lexus Lanes. The regular people simply eat cake during rush hour.)

Google has already done in the remaining livability remnants of Boulder, driving housing prices and rents to insane levels in a town that long ago surrounded itself with taxpayer financed “open space”, and has no ability to add housing units except by growing vertically, but with zero motor vehicle transportation improvements - actually negative growth given that Boulder has been hell-bent on converting its very few four lane roads that go anywhere into two lane roads with bicycle lanes given over to the former auto lanes. What Boulder is doing is actually kinda cool, deliberately converting itself in to a leftist hell on earth in terms of livability.

I pray amazon doesn’t come to Colorado and do to the entire Denver metro area as a whole what Google did to Boulder.

I’m guessing Western Iowa or Oklahoma for what Bezos is looking for.

Interesting. You live in such a magnificent part of the country. I wonder if when Dixie Lee Ray (?) was Governor the state was a great place for young businesses to grow. Wherever the socialists take hold, over a few decades, the opposite is true.

I thought Memphis,Tennessee was the population center of the lower 48 states. Both UPS and Fed Ex have got major hubs there. Would it make sense to locate near there?!

I am hearing that Detroit is making special offers to lure Amazon to locate their second headquarters there.

Vacating most of their real estate years ago must have been part of the master plan.
