LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - With the president landing at Chennault International Airport earlier Saturday, some took the opportunity to experience things up close.
Many planes have landed at Chennault International Airport, but none quite like this.
Air Force One made its arrival Saturday afternoon, bringing in its most precious cargo - the President of the United States.
After speaking to evacuees in Houston, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania stepped off the plane and made their way through the city of Lake Charles.
And outside the airport people were already waiting.
I was right here at the corner, and he was waving and giving us a thumbs up, said Dion Kingsbury.
Melanie was sitting on our side and then she waved right here, said Dakota Jarreau.
How much better does it get when he points at you right there, slows down the car and says, Hi, we love you,' " said Pia Hallmark.
For many it was something they never thought they would ever experience.
You see it on TV, but when you see it in person its a different feeling, said Kingsbury.
I'm from Germany, and I never even saw a president over there," said Hallmark. "To come over here and live here for 40 years, and take on the custom of the United States, and then see a president who really believes God and puts God back into the White House, its awesome.
And as the President wrapped up his visit and made his way back to the airport, some believe if you missed this visit you missed something special.
You should have really stopped what you were doing just to appreciate (a) President that comes down here and take time out of his schedule to be able to come and say hi, he loves us (and) God bless," said Hallmark.
How does President Trump compare?
Reagan messed my hair back when he was running for Cal Governor My mom was a volunteer for his campaign
Trump is the best
Greatest presidents ever imo:
1.Trump 2.Reagan 3.Eisenhower
Worst ever in order of most disgusting:
1. Obama 2. clinton. 3. FDR(socialist new deal). 4. Carter all democrat socialist cretins. democrats are part of an atheist marxist/socialist cult.
I’ve never met President Trump and probably won’t. I’m pretty much a shut-in these days.
Obama used to do almost the same thing.
He’d ride by and say “Hi. I love me.”
Thank You for posting 2DV.
Love that interview the the German Lady :)
He would say that after he said, “ahh umm ahh” several times.
Only physically. In other respects you are more engaged than most.
Cool. We used to see President Ford at Beaver Creek resort in Colorado. He was a very nice man, used to sit right in the crowd at the outdoor concerts and sign things for anyone that came up to him.
A friend of mine, Washington correspondent Thomas DeFrank, wrote a good book about him called “Write It When I’m Gone”, based on Ford’s order after a set of interviews and discussions. Tom is liberal (but not nuts) and he and Ford became friends.
You got all of us...
You sure are staying up on things, with all of your wonderful posts on FR. From what you see and hear on TV, how would you rate President Trump for his ability to connect with people?
Once in Vail quite a few years ago, I was in the same place at the same time as Betty Ford. It was a break in a concert. Betty Ford waited in line for a stall with the rest of us!
In most ways he’s about on par with Reagan, with the Internet thrown in which Reagan didn’t have. With Cambridge Analytica, Trump has a system to send individualized messages to any voter anywhere. He’s doing what Ali did in the ring, letting his opponents wear themselves out punching him for several rounds then he goes in for the knockout. In Houston this time he reminded me of Eisenhower or Reagan when interacting with the refugees.
I yelled at Bill Clinton a lot. And Hillary. And Al Gore.
Your list of greatest and worst are EXACTLY what I would have said. I’m so excited that we are living in the time of The Best.
You are the tip of our spear Kristinn :)
I’d like to see LBJ before at least two of those.
