Noted liberal Alan Dershowitz is coming under fire from detractors on the left over his criticism of the extremism espoused by the Antifa movement.
The Harvard Law School professor emeritus, a vocal Hillary Clinton supporter during the presidential campaign, has called out the far-left movements role in the violence that unfolded in Charlottsville though continuing his criticism of President Trumps decision not to call out the KKK and Neo-Nazis.
Look, were both a nation of immigrants and a nation of discrimination against immigrants. Thats an important history for us to remember. And the other important thing is do not glorify the violent people who are now tearing down the statues, Dershowitz told Fox & Friends last week of the Antifa.
Many of these people, not all of them, many of these people are trying to tear down America. A radical American, anti-free market communist, socialist, hard-left organization that tries to stop speakers on campuses from speaking. They use violence and just because theyre opposed to fascism and to some of these monuments shouldnt make them heroes of the liberals.
Dershowitzs condemnation of extremists on both sides of the political spectrum which was echoed in an op-ed he wrote for The Algemeiner last week sparked some anger on social media. Some suggested it echoed too closely Trumps many sides comments in the wake of Charlottsville....

I have noticed over the last year that Dershowitz seems to have been frequently appealing to a more conservative audience, at least at times. Whether that is because he is merely opportunistic, finding that to be financially profitable for his career, or that he actually has an assortment of less than liberal views, I’m not certain. Either way, it has been interesting, and he has at times been a thorn in the side of certain liberal media types.
They want a war and they’ll taunt us until we start fighting back. Then it’s home to mommy for them.
They’re sticking their arms into a real wasp’s nest expecting not to get stung. Yes, they’re that stupid.
I have been watching him on a Jewish religious cable station for a bit and he sounds quite reasonable. I don’t think it is an act.
Mark Geragos is an ambulance-chasing legal whore, the male equivalent of Gloria Allred. He’s a prima donna in his own mind but he’s dancing alone, without a partner, up there.
This street trash would be home with their pizza, if the cops were in Phoenix mode.
Stand down cops feed lawlessness and is a promise at Berkley. This good news travels fast.
He has spoken out clearly and forcefully, and should be commended.
Not really. He’s just a principled liberal. There are such people..few and far between. Principled liberals look like moderates these days compared to what is going on. And if push comes to shove, he will side with us. Because he understands what is really going on here.
I have a LOT of disagreements with Dershowitz, but on things like this, we’re in agreement. He seems like a decent guy, but misguided.
Dershowitz has occasionally said very good things, and has been good about defending DJT’s plenary powers as POTUS. But I’ll never truly trust him because he rabidly defended that face-biting rapist Bill Clinton, even when it was proven that Clinton committed perjury and subornation of perjury.
1. John McCain, Jeb Bush
2. Alan Dershowitz, Camille Paglia
3. Glenn Beck, Charles Krauthammer
Yes, I know. Not a good set of choices. That said, I'd take Door #2, Monty.
These lib/commie thugs want a war, then they should f'kn get one. They've gone beserk since Donald Trump was elected and maybe a good civil war will put these rabid dogs out of their misery!
Welcome to the Trump bandwagon, Alan. Your mob armed with torches and clubs will be awaiting you on the Harvard campus.
The obvious explanation of increasing criticism of
the left by Dershowitz is the fact that the left
continues to get crazier by the day. Dershowitz may
be a wrong headed lefty but he is a principled
lefty, at least.
Stop invalidating America by saying we're a nation of immigrants!! No, we are not! We stopped being a nation of immigrants when company employee rosters and complete-congregation rosters and indentured rosters turned into codified immigration laws. Nobody says Africa is a continent of immigrants even though their history has been tumultuous and violent. Same with Canada, Mexico, Australia, Russia, Spain, New Zealand, China, Iceland, the Middle East, etc etc etc.
We don't have immigrant citizenship applications, we have American citizenship applications. So stop it. And challenge everyone who tries to invalidate America. We are a country founded by Europeans who's generations changed the world and in doing so became the most unique people in the world - Americans. We are a country whose people have lifted the world into the space age, and, one of the few countries that do welcome those immigrants of all races - who respect our country, our culture, our values and our uniqueness and want to be part of it, and, who understand that our culture and our identity is just as important and worthy of recognition as their native culture and identity.
Alan Dershowitz is a hero who has the courage to use his intellect, his experience and his values to stand up for the truth. He is a rare kind of man.
It might just be that he’s smart enough to realize that these people hurt the Democrats politically.
I was at an event Friday at which a U.S. Senator, a retired 3- or 4-star, and the head of International/Governmental Affairs for a Fortune 50 company held a panel discussion on foreign affairs. The women in the video in the thread below were similar to some protesting outside when I left:

I commented to a dozen or so people as I was walking to my car, thats Trumps Reelection Committee at work over there. Several got a laugh out of it.
Interestingly enough, I would too. #2 represents those most in favor of the basic ideals of America, i.e. free speech, thought, and religion. Though I may disagree with many of their policy prescriptions, they are people you can coexist with who won’t try to kill you for disagreeing.
