President Trump's visit to Yuma

After Action Report:

We went to the civil air side of the Yuma AZ airport and there were about 100-150 cars with people waiting to see AF-1. They appeared to care less about politics for the most part although if political views were displayed it was all President Trump support.

We drove by where the protesters were arranged, all 20 of them, at the park across the street from the end of the runway. They were nested in a group of about 200-300 more cars (600 people) that again appeared to be there to to see AF-1 and that group was also apolitical, certainly not showing any interest or unity with the protest crowd.

The protesters were the usual "coalition". There was one mexican holding a sign about how bad walls are. I actually respected him because I got the feeling that he was there because of his personal committment, the same reason I was there although our committments are diametrically opposed.

Then we got to the freak blender,

There were a few that had signs that contended that everyone that opposed them were KKK or nazis and they appeared to be the white guilt faction.

There were 5 gay people of which 2 were flipping everyone off and 4 mush heads from Yuma Indivisible the local trotskyites.

Oh, and of course, newscritters from the local spanish language TV and radio stations who will probably tell us the protesters numbered in the thousands, maybe millions.

What really made it all perfect for us, was at the airport fence, a 20 something hispanic woman was absolutely bonkers thrilled that President Trump was there. She asked me to take a picture of her with AF-1 in the background and she was calling her dad and another relative to come down and see Presidnt Trump's plane. She was so giddy, it was fun to see someone that age so enthusiastic and thrilled by the moment. She had a very patriotic shirt on for the occasion too.

The mention of the Latina lady reminds me of when I was in grad school, 1980, before Reagan’s election, when some of us were talking politics at breakfast. Somebody mentioned Nixon and most of the American students sort of sneered but a female classmate from Mexico (half the student body was from overseas ... some folks can guess the school, but a hint would be The Pub, the Balloon Race, and the swamp coolers in the dorms) suddenly got enthusiastic and said “Nixon? Oh he was one of the best presidents you ever had!” The sudden silence and stunned looks on faces around the table were memorable. I just smiled at her and nodded in agreement.
