New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board director Cedric Grant blamed widespread flooding over the weekend on climate change, but it wasnt long before news broke that broken water pumps were actually to blame.
Throughout the week, media reports have shown that New Orleanss antiquated water pumping system failed to keep flooding at bay, and the problem hasnt been resolved.
The mayors office warned Thursday morning a fire had taken out a turbine that powers most water pumping stations in the East Bank of New Orleans.
With more heavy rain forecast for this week, Mayor Mitch Landrieu is asking residents to prepare for flooding.

“Warm water expands, and Im sure thats what caused the pipes to brake.”
But not when it goes from 0C to 4C.(Fun science fact)
It may be that the pumps just froze after they burned out, therefore it is climate change? See, you have to think like they do to figure out how it could be blamed on climate.
I heard this pumping system is almost 100 years old.
Incompetence in New Orleans is caused by Republican presidents.

The maintainence money was diverted.
If only these climate change morons would take themselves out of the equation. But, noooo, they’re still here using up the Earth’s resources. Proof they aren’t as dedicated as they make themselves out to be.
Don't all the politicians in New Orleans keep their money in the refrigerator?
Living in a generally non-flooding area of the U.S.,it’s always been hard to understand the wisdom of building a city on a coast, below sea level, & then turning around & rebuilding it after a flood. Then again,I don’t understand Democrats, either.

Facts have no place in a discussion of Global Warming.
It doesn’t help that the city is under sea level.
I think New Orleans was originally above water. Unfortunately, it is built on top of deep sediment. Essentially, it’s on a slow motion mudslide into the sea, and will eventually need to be abandoned.
And Bush said nothing in response.
We passed through New Orleans last year on our way to Florida. My daughter got out of the car to just go into a store in the French Quarter. We came by and picked her up and she said she couldn’t wait for us to come back because the stores and sidewalk smelled like vomit and urine.
The buildings didn’t look like a great amount of money was spend rebuilding them.
I would never go back. Wouldn’t bother me if they leveled the place.
infrastructure like a new pump doesn’t pay union dues, so no funding for that..
Looks like the Landrieuxz pocketed the money again instead of buying pumps.
My apologies, you are correct.
I hate that when I’m riding a bike and I get a flat tire from climate change.
Someone who had worked on the plan said this wasn't supposed to happen. They wanted to try to reinvigorate some old wetlands...they really messed up.
As usual, follow the money.
