As far as the Upper Pen of Michigan goes, back in the day, they had intended in making it its own state. That was when the UP had political and financial clout.
Then came the fight with Ohio over the small area around Toledo. The Yoopers got screwed and didnt even know it.

Without California the USA would have no power in the pacific. Hell the USA would be broken. We would not be able to honor any commitments to any of our allies from Europe to Israel to countries in the far east. Period.
California does most of the inventing in the USA. Without California’s invention machine the USA would rapidly turn into a second and third rate power.
Without California the USA would lose much of its space development capacity. So the USA would be cut off from the future.
If Calexit succeeded Oregon and Washington would not be far behind.
The list of bad stuff that flows from CalExit goes on and on.

Sure let’s give away the left coast which is a substantial part of our economy and military while giving up on millions of Conservatives who will have to immigrate if they can’t start their own state. This is INSANITY and will never happen. The Marines would be sent to Sacramento before America lets a rebel state leave. It did not work out to well last time.
Once they fully institute socialism, California will quickly go the way of Venezuela, and Cuba. No one within their borders should under any circumstances be allowed back into the US.
Actually if California votes to exit, it should be viewed as a state in rebellion. The military should move in, and the state of Jefferson created. The blue areas can go then go through reconstruction, where the Dems lose the right to vote for a period of time. The reconstruction shouldn't take very long, since all you'd have to do is clean up the voter registration rolls and conduct honest elections.

Democrat Party Minus 55 Electoral Votes... if we moved all of that industry out of California and put it in a free state, we would save oodles of taxpayer dollars.

I agree with your assessment about stupidity. Calexit it is broken emotional thinking. Let’s grow up. Some leave and some stay and fight. My children and their families live here. Leaving is not an option. Here is some of what CA patriots face:
