Trump May Be Playing 4-D Chess With Sessions/Priebus/Kelly
DB Daily Update ^ | 7.29.2017 | David Blackmon

Posted on 07/29/2017 8:30:55 AM PDT by EyesOfTX

There is no question that the President is both frustrated with and very fond of his Attorney General, Jeff Sessions. President Trump was caught off-guard by Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from the Democrat/Media-generated Russia Collusion fantasy play, and has stewed about that decision ever since. At the same time, though, Sessions was and remains one of the President’s earliest and most loyal supporters, and the two obviously like one another.

But the President definitely wants to move Sessions out of Justice, so that he can appoint a new A/G who can exert some semblance of control over the ever-expanding, obvious witch hunt that Special Counsel Bob Mueller is running. Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein, the lifetime swamp creature who appointed Mueller, has steadfastly refused to exercise any oversight whatsoever.

But Trump has been warned by squish GOP senators Ben Sasse and Lindsey Graham that the senate would never confirm a new AG nominee if Sessions is fired. Both senators also made it clear they would never allow the President to make a recess appointment for the AG post.

So what does any of that have to do with the “resignation” by Reince Priebus and his replacement with DHS Secretary Kelly? Well, consider the following possible steps available to the President now:

- Because Sessions has already been confirmed by the Senate for a cabinet post, those squish senators would have no ability whatsoever to interfere if Mr. Trump wanted to replace Kelly at DHS by moving Sessions into that job;

- Because EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt has already been confirmed by the Senate for his position, those squish senators would have no ability whatsoever to interfere if Mr. Trump decided to move the former Attorney General of Oklahoma into the Attorney General slot;

-- Trump can move them around playing musical cabinet. --

Good for a year, IIRC.

Separately, some of the people currently holding "acting" positions will be timed out shortly, leaving the positions filled but with a question about the legal validity of any actions they take.

I’m all in for 1-D chess. Fascinating game. Like tug of war.

I like it.

Except, Pruitt is so valuable at EPA stopping the socialist/globalist/Satanic global warming agenda. Would need a spectacular replacement there.

Sounds more like a threat.

Threat? Trump just swindled them into giving Sessions carte blanche support, and the next thing we know DOJ is investigating James Baker, Comey colleague deep state never-trump counsel at FBI - which should have been Mueller's job

Rick Perry said he believed in AGW. Deal killer for me. We cannot have someone who believes that BS running the EPA.

That's total and utter ignorant hogwash. It's a new appointment requiring a new confirmation.

“4D Chess”
That’s what I’m hoping.
There MUST be a master plan.

“and the next thing we know DOJ is investigating James Baker”

They are? I saw one story which if true means they sure as hell should be but I haven’t seen any indication that they are.

Both senators also made it clear they would never allow the President to make a recess appointment for the AG post.

Anyone on FR know how that works? Recess appointments do not go to a Senate that is in "RECESS" - how are Ben Sasse and Linda Graham going to STOP DJT?

Amen.

Sessions has seemed non-plussed by Trump’s negative remarks, and Sessions sparkling eyes tell me he does not feel threatened, but is part of the play— whatever the play turns out to be.

Sessions broke Trump’s back with that damn recusal, and yet in his Marquess of Queensbury Rules, Sessions is respected for his strict adherence to the protocols when connected to even the slightest improper appearance of events or connections.

I like the shuffle idea posed in this article. Sessions is impotent on the big stuff, like sabotage of Trump by the Obama FBI and the Russian play acting with Junior. All those dark arts, fall to Rosenstein or whoever. Sessions is useless.

Get him out of Justice and put somebody in there who is fearless. Stick Sessions in DHS.

Thank you, that’s what I thought. You cannot just move Cabinet members around like shift workers.

Simple. It takes a majority vote in order to fully “recess” the Senate. It would only take 3 GOP senators to cause such a vote to fail. Sasse and Graham could count on Collins/Murkowski/Flake all to support them. Under Senate rules, all it would then take to keep the Senate in session would be for two senators to show up periodically to gavel the chamber in and gavel it back out. It’s a shitty thing to do to a POTUS of your own party, but hey, this is GOP squishes we’re talking about here.

Investigations are conducted mostly out of public view.

Isn’t it much more fun to try to figure out what President Trump is up to, than to try to tell him what to do?

I regularly turn off conservative talk radio shows when the host goes into an I-know-the-Art-of-Strategy-better-than-Trump tirade—e.g., Michael Savage last week.

I realized the answer to my own question after positing. IF the GOP does this they really do have a DEATH WISH don't they!! I will help end the GOP in 2018 should it come to this, I am ready anyway with the sabotage of the repeal of Obamacare.

There are parliamentary moves that can keep the Senate from an official recess for longer than a week. I recall one of the methods is scheduling some token session every Friday, using a senator nearby to DC.

The GOP blocked Obama recess appointments in 2011 this way.

I think that is not correct. imho. Neither of us can link a confirmation of our opinion, but I have heard once confirmed, an individual may be moved by the POTUS, at his discretion.

Everyone repeating themselves and viewing the same clearances and other documents does not produce efficiency. Makes no sense to be done twice.

There’s a female, I can’t recall her name, who is third in charge and Senate confirmed at the DOJ. It’s another option.
