Following the retirement of Major General Perry Smith, Governor Ivey has appointed Sheryl Gordon as Adjutant General of the Alabama National Guard. General Gordon will be the first female Adjutant General in the history of the Alabama National Guard.
Governor Ivey called General Gordon a trailblazer and visionary leader with a distinguished military career spanning 33 years. General Gordon became a 2nd Lieutenant in 1981. She was promoted to Brigadier General in 2009 and Major General in 2011. She currently serves as the civilian Executive Director of the National Guard Association.
Being chosen to serve in this capacity is a great honor and is a responsibility I do not take lightly. However, I am confident my previous assignments have prepared me for this task.
General Sheryl Gordon will take command beginning August 1st.
It's a standard Major General flag.
Uh, yeah. I was simply adding to the discussion since the G.O. flag had already been described.
Last I heard, tits on a boar were useless.
Mea culpa, I thought you were saying a general officer flag should be blue.
I like your flag pics. For those that are interested, a simple search string of “admiral command flag” or “general command flag” will get you many.
I went to a “cow college” & was told by the animal science majors that the teats on the boar determined the teat line on any sows he sired. A good teat line shows capacity to bear many piglets.
I guess there’s a flaw in all old sayings (except, of course, “Is the Pope a Catholic?” Uh-oh; maybe that one doesn’t hold up either).
Thank you, all.
On my small phone screen I tried “red flag with white stars usa” in Google and got bupkis, also tried “us military flag red with white stars” and it kept showing service flags for family members serving in the armed forces which have gold stars. Knew Freepers would know.
FreedomPoster, special thanks for the visual.
Never left the state of AL yet got all those awards??? Just effin amazing....
Congratulations!
Chair-borne Ranger? The standards for awards must be different in the Guard and Reserves. I did 8 years active duty, and received an ARCOM and MSM for my efforts.
Yeah, that last one seems to be debatable these days. Interesting times.
Thank you!
Army commendation medal and army good conduct medal... looks like some enlisted time.
In twenty years, there won’t be a general, or colonel, who isn’t black, female, muslim, or queer of some sort or other. It’s also likely that not a one will have any combat experience as well. That’s how diversity works.
HAHAHAHAHA MAD DOG MATTIS? POLITICAL...Semper Fi,
I am sure she is well qualified with her many times in Harms Way. heh heh General Gordon monitors strength management, Soldier morale and welfare, and deployment status, providing command emphasis and targeted staff assistance. She works with Joint Force Headquarters primary staff officers to ensure that supporting and facilitating unit readiness is the focus for all staff activities. General Gordon serves as the senior Army Officer on the Alabama Armory Commission and represents the Adjutant General and the Alabama National Guard at local, state, and national functions. She makes me look like Chesty Puller... heh heh
“How many of Obamas choices to head the military have been sacked? How many of those forced into retirement have bee asked to return to duty?”
Good point. However, this started with Clinocchio, back in the 1990s. There were many flag and general officer resignations, and many more were purged. It became impossible for an ethical man to put on stars.
That is a lot of years.
I don’t know what can be done except to promote brand new graduates from the academy to flag rank.
The culture of good men policing each other must be restored.
