“Paid for, by whom? Blank out.” - John Galt
You get that many people who have a basic income will not work. Especially if health care comes along with it. You will add to violence and gangs and drugs. You will have people working for cash. You will have permanent underclass and it will be larger than anything we have now.
The reality is that we have a certain amount of people who work because they have to. If those people don’t need the money they will not work. And especially if they are under 30 they will never work. Crime will go up because these people will have lots of time on their hands but not enough money to do anything. Many will spend everything on the first day of the month or week, whenever their check comes in. They will be destitute again it will just start the second or third day of the month.
And to pay for those who choose not to work there will be those who do. And if they have to pay too much so that others do nothing, then even more will not work.
I think we are toying with the ideas that we have tried and tossed away over 50 years ago. I have a theory about humanity. it goes like this; There is nothing so stupid that humanity won’t try it...twice. The Eva Peron want-to-bes who have decided this is a good idea, need a lesson in history as well as economics. I suggest a field trip to Venezuela Greece and Cuba to start.
Anyone who managed to wade through that entire river of leftist effluent, please raise your hand. You deserve special Freeper recognition for your trouble.
Your “Basic Income” would come from everyone who pays taxes and then you could get high all day and deond on the rest of us going to work everyday.
BTW, we already have a welfare system. That ain’t enough for you to live on?
You need a caretaker....and a butterfly net...
NOTHING can end poverty. But liberal schemes to do so stand a better than even chance of increasing it.
Stupidity at its finest.
Dilly Dawg, there is an omission of an eventually fatal nature in your seemingly endless analysis. It can be summarized in three simple words. Inflation.
The UK already tried it. All it did was generate an underclass who spent their time drunk, committing random crimes for fun, who did nothing but consume.
Mark 14:7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.(KJV)
Someone will always be poorer or richer than someone else. Poverty means one thing in a famine-ridden nation and quite another in a well-fed nation.
Question for UBI advocates... Which is it?
1. We have too many workers due to automation
2. We have too few workers and must increase immigration
What a jumbled mess.
Giving people X amount of dollars merely increases the zero point. Prices will rise to match.
Ask folks who lived in communist countries how well a basic income works
Quick let the foljs at NIF know
“n 2016, the Autistic Self Advocacy Network recognized Matthews as the most outstanding Autistic journalist of the year by presenting him with the Harriet McBryde Johnson Award for Non-Fiction Writing.[19]”
Explains kuch
It actually makes more sense for the gummint to pay people to be rich. Instead of paying poor people to have children, why don’t we pay rich people to have children?
Man, that’s a lot of words. Oddly enough, I don’t need to read a single bit of it to know it’s wrong.
A basic income getting rid of poverty? No. No, it won’t. That’s not how economics work. That’s not how human beings work. The very notion is built on the false premise that a government allowance will solve everything. No. I don’t need to listen to a thousand arguments to know Communism will fail.
Perfect scheme for a fascist government. Make everybody dependent on you for food, and then cut them off if they have the “wrong” thoughts.
I wonder if he believes this crap - keep giving people stuff w/o them lifting a finger to ear it and they do not save it or use it wisely - they get addicted and need more and more to ‘just survive”...
Universal Basic Income = War On Poverty on steroids
Redistribution of wealth from rich to poor, whether it is from affluent people to poor people, or 1st World countries to 3rd World countries as the Paris Climate Accord would have done, has not and never will work.
Send more untold billions and they will still be 3rd World Hell-holes.
All my nearly 70 years on earth I have heard about how 3rd World countries need my money. Charities have sent countless billions to those countries and they are still 3rd World Hell-holes.
Try Universal Bear Food where all bears get a guaranteed food ration and see how that works at making them more independent.
