In the Garrett PI novel "Deadly Quicksilver Lies" (written by Glen Cook), the PI in the story is trying to solve a mystery and one of the adversaries that he's facing is a gang of earring-wearing homosexual criminals, whom he refers to as "bold brave pirates" ... because of their ear jewelry.

In the process of his investigations, he and his sidekick, Morley Dotes, break into a upscale magic boutique owned and operated by two of these "bold brave pirates". Morley Dotes enters the back of the shop while Garrett goes in through the front, causing the two owners to flee to the back of the shop.

The line as I best remember it is that Garrett then heard a series of slaps and heard one of the queers "squeal as if he was being whipped by a naked girl". I always thought that was a purely funny description ...
