The 300,000,000 privately owned weapons in this country are the reason tyranny will never flourish here. And its also the reason no program to grab those guns will ever have the slightest chance of success.
It flourished for 8 years.
Probably the most important thing we can do long term is to make sure the next generation and the generation after that have shooters too - lots of shooters, the same proportion as our generation if we can get there. That's as important as preventing confiscation or its prerequisite of registration today. The Ctrl-Left thinks long term, and they would be thrilled to disarm us now, but they would also be happy to see shooting fade as a percentage of the population so they can disarm us in 40 years or even 80 years.
Run and hide? No. Not me, not my children, and not my grandchildren as they come along. Not the Scouts (what's left of that once great program), and not the other youth of my (pathetically liberal) area. Never. As an NRA certified pistol, rifle, and shotgun instructor, I have been making an effort and will continue making an effort to reach out to more future shooters. This isn't about bringing in customers for a class to get a little extra money, it's about introducing future generations to a lifestyle and to the concept of self-reliance - the exact opposite of liberalism. There is nothing more political or more important than keeping responsible shooting alive as part of American culture.

It is over 400,000,000 now.
But “never” is a very long time. We put up with government intrusions the founders would never have imagined.
Taxes taken directly from your pay, before you see it.
Requirements to show I.D. before you can travel to other countries.
The idea that you had to get government permission to buy a gun would have been ridiculed.
Eternal vigilance is required. Mindset is more important than armament.
Armament is important to build mindset.
