My daughter is just graduating from public high school. Her education -- particularly around science (global warming) and politics (social studies/American history) -- was a 13-year exercise in leftist indoctrination.
And yet, as she graduates, she is a conservative who has nothing but contempt for the left.
Why? Because I paid attention to what she was being taught, and from kindergarten through senior year, I have been there to counter the leftist propaganda with conservative arguments.
In writing science and history assignments, she was able to rely on me to provide her with conservative sources that made very strong counter-arguments to what she was being taught.
She learned how to to think critically, and to recognize leftist propaganda for what it is.
Any time she was forced to make a choice between her Daddy's perspective and the that of the commie school curriculum, I am proud to say she chose her Daddy.
And today, she has nothing but bemused contempt for the left. I am so proud of her.
I think conservative parents should not be afraid to send their kids to public school, because doing so is an opportunity to teach them how to be independent thinkers -- if you are willing to be an involved parent and teach your kids to how to respect America and recognize right from wrong.
Some of the earliest writings against public schooling addressed this very issue.
Utterly totalitarian. They used to do this in Communist countries.
Parents must teach their children from a young age as to how to deal with scoundrels.
1) Never, ever talk to a reporter about yourself or your family.
2) If someone wants you to do something nasty, that you feel uncomfortable with, leave the area and contact another adult.
3) If some teacher talks religion or politics, or asks you about them, tell your parents as soon as possible.

The younger Freepers missed the Vietnam student activist days and the “teach ins”.

The Barna surveys revealed that 80-90% of children who enter government schools with a Christian worldview, leave at graduation with a secular humanist worldview. Do you think that it is just a random event that most young people today have a Bernie worldview?

No, it is a form of child abuse. Only the foolish or ignorant send their children into the socialist government school environment.
Most of those who defend government schooling in this forum are up in arms about government health care. They are foolish and/or ignorant.
